Floods of Alibis by Theatre Matahari (CANCELLED)

Theatre Matahari presents Floods of Alibis by local playwright Rahmat M. Nor!

Come 25th June 2014, Theatre Matahari’s Floods of Alibis will take centre stage at the Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT). It is an intoxicating tragedy that revolves around a death that occurred at a university campus, set in the 70s.

Rahmat M. Nor, the theatre’s playwright, had embarked on this stage production after a successful stint at a theatre program organised by the National Arts Council, called ‘Theatre Talkback’. Following positive reviews made by the panel of assessors at the above-mentioned program, the decision to stage the theatre script was made.

In the play, Samantha Fay, a successful and passionate psychology professor experiences backlash and pain after discovering her undergraduate protégé dead in her office at the university campus. The story revolves around this tragic death and the eventual discord between Samantha, and her confidante, Professor Farida Sayed. The situation is made more complicated by the intriguing change in Samantha’s emotional past. This was consequently a factor for her sexual upheaval, much to the anguish of people around her. It leads to unwelcomed doubts in the professor’s integrity, threatening her marriage as well as her tenure at the Faculty of Psychological Science. Through suspect, omissions, and wavering alibis, truth is unveiled beyond what appears to be.

Taking on the role of Samantha Fay will be Alessandra Fel, who has 12 years of experience performing and directing in London. She is currently teaching theatre at LaSalle College of the Arts. She will be joined on stage by Mohammed Najib Soiman, Melvinder Kanth, Frances Lee, Sabrina Zuber, Nessa Anwar, Andrew David Sutherland as well as theatre veteran Paul Lucas.

The producer/director of Floods of Alibis is Richelle M.South, who holds a degree in dance from The University of California, Irvine. She owns her own production company, Eclectic Stage Productions, which is in its 7th year of producing the top grossing variety show in Los Angeles. Floods of Alibis will be Richelle’s first time working with Rahmat and her first stage production in Singapore.
