Forget the flowers – 15 alternative ways to spend Valentine’s Day

Ugh, Valentine’s Day. So much pressure to do something romantic, to do something original, but so few ideas.

Yes you can go and sit in a restaurant full of couples doing exactly the same thing for the Nth year in a row OR you can break away from the mold and do something a little different, something which will probably end up therefore being more memorable than years gone by.

But what? Time is running out! I know what you’re thinking….HELP!!!  Panic not Nomads because help is at hand! We got together, racked our brains and came up with a list of alternative ways to spend your Valentine’s day this year….so go ahead and try something new and let romance flourish the Nomad way…..

  1. Kidnap your loved one, buy some champagne (or sparkling wine) from EWine Asia and some artisan chocolates made fresh by artisan chocolatier Truffs and keep the romance behind closed doors.
  2. Stock up on tasty pies from the Gourmet Pie Company or Windowsill Pies, snap up a rug and some knives and forks, and catch a romantic sunset down by the water as a backdrop for your picnic.
  3. Make like a teenager and book a lane at a bowling alley (find your nearest bowling alley here) or cosy up in the cold during a spot of ice skating at Kallang Leisure Park.
  4. Book in some home indulgence and be transported into mega chilled out bliss with Sole Service who will bring you complete relaxation and total wellbeing through their in-home massage therapies straight to your door. Because a satisfied soul makes for a romantic soul.
  5. One step better than getting massaged, learn how to massage your loved one at Pro Academy with their couples massage workshop.
  6. Cosy up at The Sultan Jazz Club for some smouldering melodies and get amorous to the music.
  7. There’s nothing like a change of scene to bring on the romance, but that shouldn’t have to come with a hefty hotel room price tag. So why not try booking in a stay at someone else’s pad in Singapore for the night, courtesy of Roomorama.

  8. Gaze up at the stars together in a spot of stargazing. Word has it that the best stargazing spots are around Sentosa, Changi beach, Sembawang beach, Mount Faber and if you feel like going further afield, Pulau Ubin. Failing that, the observatory at Singapore Science Centre is usually a sure fire win.
  9. Spice up your life with Coriander Leaf’s Valentine’s Day Cooking Class…because the shared preparation of food is the perfect preamble for love, don’t ya think?
  10. Book in a private dance class (hey nothing schmaltzy, we’re talking swing here Nomads!) which you can either have in the comfort of your own home, or in a studio space courtesy of Jazz Inc. You might need a little dutch courage, but there’s nothing like a bit of dance to bring you closer together…
  11. If your voice is like velvet, book in a private booth at K Suites and serenade each other with your favourite lovesongs…cheesy but fun!
  12. So don’t buy flowers…because every other schmuck will be coming home with them. Instead, leave the office early and whisk your loved one off to the Botanical Gardens for a romantic stroll, looking at some of theirs instead. Make sure you get there in good time, before the gardens close at 7pm though!
  13. There’s nothing like sharing a good laugh with someone special, so check out The Comedy Club which will be running over Valentine’s night for some top class comedy.
  14. If you must go out for dinner, go the following night, when you won’t be surrounded by romantic clones. Take a look at our reviews for some inspiration here.
  15. Failing that, if you’re single, then you can pat yourself yourself on the back for not having to do any of the above. Our recommendation? Celebrate at a Nomad approved bar!
