Herbie Hancock live in Singapore!!

Now in the fifth decade of his professional life, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been-at the forefront of world culture, technology, business and music.

In addition to being recognised as a legendary pianist and composer, Herbie Hancock has been an integral part of every popular music movement since the 1960s. As a member of the Miles Davis Quintet that pioneered a groundbreaking sound in jazz, he also developed new approaches on his own recordings. This was followed by his work in the ’70s-including the record-breaking album Headhunters-that combined electric jazz with funk and rock in an innovative style that continues to influence contemporary music.

Hancock received an Academy Award for his film score for Round Midnight and a staggering 14 Grammy Awards, which includes Album of the Year for River: The Joni Letters and two 2011 Grammy Awards for his globally collaborative album The Imagine Project. Many of Hancock’s compositions including Cantaloupe Island, Maiden Voyage, Watermelon Man and Chameleon have become modern standards.

Hancock serves as Creative Chair for Jazz for the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association and as Institute Chairman of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz. He is a founder of The International Committee of Artists for Peace (ICAP), and was recently awarded the Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres by French Prime Minister Francois Fillon. In 2011, Hancock was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and has since been chairing the International Jazz Day event held annually in April.

For this performance, Hancock is joined by exceptional musicians Lionel Loueke (guitar), James Genus (bass) and Vinnie Colaiuta (drums).

Gary is one of those proverbial jack of all trades… you know the rest. When not writing about lifestyle and culture, he dabbles in photography, graphic design, plays four instruments and is a professional wearer of bowties. His greatest weakness: spending more money on clothes than he probably should. Find him across the social world as @grimlay
