Calorie counting, going vegan, intermittent fasting… Fad diets and fitness crazes may come and go, but the diet fad has been around since forever. We sat down with Clara See, the brains behind ketogenic snack brand SuperPop, to pick her brain on her opinion on the subject, and learn a little more about her FAT bombs – the snacks that keep on giving. After all, you wouldn’t even guess that she’s a mother of a 15 year-old.
Hey Clara! We’re curious, what exactly is SuperPop?
SuperPop is a healthy brand dedicated to bring clean sources of pure quality nutrient dense fat. We curate a variety of healthy fat foods that are eco-friendly, sustainable, natural, and chemical free. Simply put, we are all about the good fat – Fatty Fatty Boom Boom! At the moment, we only have FAT bombs available, but we will be extending our product line in the very near future. So watch out for us!
We’re excited! On the spectrum of snack to full-course meal, where do you see FAT bombs?
Our FAT bombs are great as a breakfast, a snack, dessert, or even a meal itself. It really depends on an individual’s diet plan or taste preferences. It’s perfect as a breakfast because it can prolong the benefits of fasting, keeping you fuller for longer and most importantly, has a minimal effect on blood sugar. I encourage eating it before a meal as it can reduce insulin spikes by up to 50% and also better manage your food intake as it fills you up with the necessary nutrients. Always eat fat first.
Do you think people still have a misconception of eating fat?
Yes! Fat has gotten a bad reputation over the years because of misunderstood studies and reports. Actually, it’s sugar or carbs that make us fat and not fats. Fat is actually the only macronutrient that does not spike insulin levels which is an underlying cause of many ailments. It’s also an essential nutrient for the body to function optimally.
We also hear you’re something of a fit-spiration yourself! What kind of sports do you do?
Fit-spiration? Haha, such a cute term. I discovered my love for yoga about three years ago and I am a 200-hour yoga alliance certified yoga teacher. I am completely in love my practice and I think that it is one of the best activities someone can do for themselves.
If you don’t mind us asking, what’s your daily diet like? You look great!
Absolutely not. Thank you so much for the compliment! My daily diet consists of LCHF or low carb high fat foods and sugar-free stuff. For example, I take one FAT bomb when I open my eating window to extend autophagy, some protein and vegetables when I get hungry, and maybe more FAT bombs or LCHF foods.
What do you think about all the trending diets in Singapore now? Any advice to people looking to eat healthier?
Yes! There are so many diets around and it’s not easy to keep up with the trends or sometimes contradicting diet advice. I love food and have been very much into diet and nutrition since I was a kid, to the extent that I memorised the calorie charts of most foods by the time I was 12.
I think that everyone is unique and different diets work for different people depending on a variety of factors including culture, tastes, lifestyle, health issues, and their relationship with food. Personally, I really enjoy the LCHF diet with intermittent fasting as it’s convenient, shows quick results, and has an incredible number of health benefits. As for advice, I would say always eat good fats first and go sugarless!
What keeps you motivated to stay on top of things, fitness wise? You must be so busy!
Ooh… good question. To be honest, it’s not always easy to stick to a fitness regime, stay disciplined with diet, and juggle a family and business all at the same time. But as I’m pushing 40 and also wanting to be an inspiring figure for my 15 year-old son, the importance of health and wellness shouts out intensely. My private diet and wellness clients also help me to stay on track as I have to keep them motivated as well. I definitely have my struggles and moments, but you just have to push on and never give up even if you might slip sometimes. Just continue and pick up from where you left off.
Favourite cheat food? You must have one.
Too many. I have to say French fries and sticky cinnamon buns, they are so so good!
Lastly, please give us some insight – what’s the best FAT bomb for a sweet tooth?
Definitely the Cinnamon Butter Toast, which is inspired by my love for sticky cinnamon buns!
