9 APR 2016 | The Singapore Chinese Orchestra will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a gala concert featuring internationally-renowned violinist Joshua Bell. Conducted by SCO Music Director Tsung Yeh, this concert also marks the debut of Joshua Bell performing with a Chinese orchestra.

As one of the most celebrated violinists worldwide, Joshua Bell has received numerous accolades including the New York Chapter and The Recording Academy (Grammy) in 2013; National Young Arts Foundation in 2012; the Paul Newman Award from the Arts Horizons and the Huberman Award from Moment Magazine in 2011.

Joshua performed with Riccardo Muti and the Philadelphia Orchestra at the age of 14 and made his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 17 with a Europe performance tour in the same year. Joshua Bell has recorded more than 40 CDs since his first LP recording at the age of 18, and these albums have garnered the prestigious Grammy, Mercury, Gramophone and Echo Klassik awards.

In this concert, Joshua Bell will perform Antonio Vivaldi’s Concerto No.1 in E Major, Op.8, RV 269, La Primavera (Spring) in his opening piece with the orchestra. He will also perform Camille Saint-Saëns’ Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28, Pablo de Sarasate’s Zigeunerweisen, Op. 20 and his interpretation of Chinese festive piece, Mao Yuan’s A Joyous New Year, which portrays the happiness of people with the arrival of a new spring.

Singapore Chinese Orchestra 20th Anniversary Gala is happening on Saturday, 9 April 2016, 7.30pm, at the Esplanade Concert Hall. Tickets are priced at $110, $90, $60, $35 and are available via SISTIC.
