Jurong Bird Park

Opened in 1971, Jurong Bird Park is Singapore’s first wildlife park and Asia’s largest bird park. Being the only Asian-Pacific park with an Avian hospital, Jurong Bird Park serves as a safe haven for over 5000 birds across 400 species, 15% of which are threatened.

Jurong Bird Park consists of 4 large free-flight aviaries that mirror the natural habitats of birds from all over the world. With over 600 birds and an enchanting view of a 30 metre high waterfall, the Waterfall Aviary is a definite must-see. If you have a soft spot for the brightly coloured lories, head over to the Australian-themed Lory Loft, where it’s not surprising to be able to feed birds right out of the palm of your hand!

If you’ve always wondered abotu the life of an avian keeper, the Breeding & Research Centre is the place to be – it provides a behind-the-scenes look at the growth process of birds from incubation to weaning while fostering a deeper appreciation of avian wildlife.

When Joel’s not partaking in one of his shameless eating sessions, he likes to think of himself as a sponge – absorbing the mysteries and beauty of our world – be it through a good book or a wacky jaunt in a foreign country.
