Just Opened #11: Singapore’s newest restaurants and bars

This week in Just Opened we have food with a view, food in a bag and more good food in general. Definitely one to loosen the belt buckle for!

Spuds & Aprons

Right at the top of Mount Faber where the view is superb and the air is fresh, sits Spuds and Aprons, a new casual diner that wants to entice you up that hill! Serving up hearty East-meets-West dishes like Chilli Crab in a Tux (how is it in a tux? we’re so simultaneously intrigued and confused!) and Vietnamese Banh Mi alongside stodgy crowd-pleasers like Fries and Gravy, Spuds & Aprons seems like a place to shrug off the diet and dive headfirst in to happy food territory. Room for desert? How about their Jar of Happiness – lovingly made from shortbread biscuits, mixed berries, ice-cream and warm berry compote or try the Varlhona Chocolate Fatal Attraction of chocolate mousse, pudding, brownie and ice-cream. The decor is simple and it’s a very casual affair but with yummy food and a fab view, that’s probably all you need.

Spuds & Aprons is located at 109 Mount Faber Road, Level 2, Singapore 099203. Opening hours are Monday – Wednesday: 9am – 11pm. Thursday: 9am – 12.30am.  Friday – Saturday: 9am – 2am. Sunday: 9am-11pm. For more information see their Facebook page here.

The Provision Shop

Could Everton Park be the new hipster enclave? If newly-opened The Provision Shop has its way then it would seem… definitely so. From the folks that brought us Esquina, Pollen, Market Grill and Keong Saik Snacks — The Provision Shop is their newest venture, a gourmet deli that serves salads, sandwiches, light meals and snacks. We’ve seen a few pictures popping up of the sandwiches, and let’s just say they look epic. The Reuben in particular, spilling out of its bread housing looks ridiculously hearty and delicious. We can’t remember being so excited about a sandwich!

The Provision Shop is located at Blk 3 Everton Park #01-79, Singapore 080003. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 11am – 9pm. For more information check out their Facebook page here.

Crab in da Bag

Crab in da Bag is basically all about getting downright messy, having sticky fingers, sauce all over your face, not caring one jot and eating with wild abandon and joy!  If you prefer your dining with a crisp white linen napkin…not for you! If the idea of a totally messy and delicious Southern Louisiana influenced seafood dinner, eating right off the wax-paper coated table and sauces out of bags intrigues, you’re in for a fun eating experience. With clams, yabbies, red prawns, tiger prawns; snow, king, flower crabs and Sri Lankan crab, lobster plus a whole host of sides and delicious sauces to choose from, prepare to feast. One word of advice, keep your phone off the table….Iphones and curry sauce don’t compliment each other too well!

Crab in da Bag is located at 902 East Coast Parkway, Big Splash Block D #01-25 Singapore 449874.  Opening Hours are Tuesday – Friday: 4pm – midnight. Saturday – Sunday: 12pm – midnight. Closed Mondays.

Hombre Cantina

Hombre (pronounced ohm-bray) is slang often used to refer to a bro or a chilled out dude. There’s nothing more, we City Nomads dudes enjoy than chilling out with a big fat burrito so Hombre Cantina, the latest addition to the hugely popular Mexican wave (wahey!) seems like a good prospect. With a focus on authentic Mexican food at good value, in a comfortable setting, and without any pretensions – because really…how to eat a burrito with elegance? – we predict this homely spot in Boat Quay will go down a treat. You can expect the usual favourites, burritos, tacos etc, with fine, fine margaritas (apparently the Pineapple & Mint Margarita wins all day long), Mexican beers, and a good selection of Artisanal Tequilas & Mezcals. The best news, it’s open till midnight = hangover cure!

Hombre Cantina is located at 53 Boat Quay, Singapore 049842. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 11.30am – midnight. For more information check out their Facebook page here.

Supply & Demand

Supply & Demand rather uniquely offers a mix of Italian and Peruvian cuisine….do they compliment each other well? Who knows! But we’re definitely game to try! But what is Peruvian food you may well ask? Well, you can expect Aquadito de Pollo (that’s chicken soup to you and I) mashed potato-based causas, anticuchos (skewered meat) and Peruvian raw fish salads, with no doubt a little heat from those South American flavours. The venue is super funky and looks pretty cool so let’s say we’re absolutely intrigued about this one!

Supply & Demand is located at Esplanade Mall, 8 Raffles Avenue, #01-13, Singapore 039802. Opening hours are Monday -Thursday: 11.30am – 11pm.  Friday – Saturday: 11.30am – 2am. Sunday: 11.30am – 11pm. For more information see their Facebook page here.
