Man Up! What to do this Father’s Day

OK, so Father’s Day may take a bit of a back seat against Mother’s Day, but we say dads everywhere still deserve to be honoured. They may be a bit more bashful about big displays of emotion, but we know they secretly love the attention! However, making a fuss over Papa Smurf can be a wee bit more difficult when it comes to finding some decent, interesting options. But don’t worry, that’s why we whipped round the City Nomads team and came up with some ideas for you:

Steak feast

Men and meat for the most part go perfectly hand in hand. So what better way to make a fuss over father dearest than to indulge in a shared steak feast? Cue the Bistecca Wagyu Feast for four. At $78++ per person it features a four course set menu with a selection of their most popular dishes using their exclusive Wagyu-Holstein beef. For bookings & enquiries call 6735 6739. Alternatively, you could also treat him to the steak of his lifetime at CUT and Mortons.

Get his swagger on

If your Dad fancies himself bit of a gentlemen (or maybe he could do with some help being one), treat him to something from Swagger on Ann Siang Road. From rare vintage collector pieces (ooh we just LOVE that whisky decanter) to old school grooming products, leather goods and a rather fine collection of apparel and accessories, give him a piece of something that every man should own – craftmanship and heritage.

Golf glorious golf

Ah, golf! The ultimate gentleman’s game, and a great way to bond with your dad on Father’s Day. It needn’t be an expensive affair involving costly club fees. Head over to one of the driving ranges accessible to the public – our favourite being Marina Bay Golf Course with its pictureseque views of the city skyline – and hit up their driving range. For more seasoned golfers, it also happens to be Singapore’s only 18-hole golf course open to the public.

A two wheel adventure on Pulau Ubin

If your dad was the one who taught you how to ride a bicycle, take a trip down memory lane and hop back on a bike! There’s no better place to do this than Pulau Ubin, which is great for a day of exploring, bonding and a spot of picnicking. If you’re game for a laugh, hire out one of the tandem bicycles for the ultimate bicycle bonding experience. For more information on getting to Pulau Ubin see here.

Old School Grooming

Yes, women like to get their nails done. So what’s the male equivalent? A hot towel shave, that’s what. Book your Pa in for the ultimate in traditional men’s grooming at old school barber shop Hounds of the Baskervilles on Bali Lane. It may be the one and only time he ever gets to experience a shave with pinpoint precision without ending up cut to pieces!  You can also check out recently opened We Need a Hero in Tiong Bahru for shaving services to spoil him with.

New School Grooming

Believe it or not, spa time doesn’t just have to be for mums! For a male-centric wellness and grooming fix for your special Padre, book him into to the newly opened The Gentleman’s Lounge at Tangs for a spot of foot reflexology, massage or even a pedicure – eherm, created strictly for guys of course. Dad can chill out and relax while being pampered by watching his favourite cable tv programmes, or even kicking back with a range of beers and liquors. This time the attention’s all on him.

Well hello there whisky!

If your Dad’s into whisky (and we just love a guy who loves their whisky), whisk him off to the WOW Symphony Friday night whisky buffet at the Movenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa ($58++ per person) where he can enjoy free flow of Scottish Single Malts, signature whisky cocktails and a food buffet of cold cuts and cheese.

Keep it real at Colbar

If your dad isn’t into anything fussy, keep it rough and rugged at the colonial institution that is the Colbar, where you can man up over a sausage sandwich with HP sauce or fish and chips, while talking sport (or whatever) over a cider or two. Colbar is at 9A Whitchurch Road, Wessex Estate, Tel: 67794859.

Fish ahoy!

If your dad is the patient type, and likes to do… well, nothing much, then let the fishing begin! Get him out onto Singapore’s seas for a daycation of Deep Sea Fishing (from $49 pp) and amuse yourselves trying (or not really) to hook a fish while recounting those “do you remember when” memories.

Father bonding was never so easy. Happy Father’s Day everyone!
