Maya Dance Theatre presents KA

KA is an ancient Egyptian concept; it is the body’s spirit, the conscience and the guardian. It is believed to live on after the body dies. KA is knowledge, passed down from teacher to student. It lives on when the student becomes the teacher.

KA features the choreographer’s teacher, Kavitha Krishnan, her living expression transferring and transforming through dancers who receive her knowledge. KA discovers the interaction of the knowledge within each person. Shahrin creates this work as a gift and a tribute to his teachers.

KA will feature Shahrin Johry alongside dancers Bernice Lee, Eva Tey, Star Guo, Gianti Giadi (Indonesia) and his teachers Kavitha Krishnan and Susan Yeung. Music Collaboration with Bani Haykal and Kailin Yong. Dramaturgy by Neo Kim Seng.

KA features a process photographic exhibition by photographer, Tan Ngiap Heng.

KA is running on 15 January (8.30pm) and 16 January 2016 (4pm and 8.30pm) at Drama Centre Black Box. Tickets are priced at $22.40 to $28. For tickets, please click here.

Gary is one of those proverbial jack of all trades… you know the rest. When not writing about lifestyle and culture, he dabbles in photography, graphic design, plays four instruments and is a professional wearer of bowties. His greatest weakness: spending more money on clothes than he probably should. Find him across the social world as @grimlay
