Mileti: Statement-making swimwear inspired by the Italian Riviera

It’s not often that one comes across a label dedicated entirely to swimwear in Singapore, and personally I find this quite surprising considering the sweltering climate here. Cue homegrown label, Mileti Swimwear, whose latest Lipsi collection of one and two-piece swimsuits is set to inject a dose of chic into your beach wardrobe this spring.
Founded in 2011 by two travellers who met on the little red dot – Yu Chia Min & Letizia Cramer – Mileti was created with the aim to curate perfect poolside looks.
Crafted from luxurious Italian fabrics, the designs take inspiration from foreign beaches, exotic locations and cosmopolitan cities. Expect digital prints in the label’s signature colour palette of gold, khaki, lavender, cool grey and white. Or if you fancy a bit of bling, crystals are used on selected designs for that extra glam factor.
The Lipsi collection is inspired by the Italian Riviera, and uses a lightweight Italian fabric that retains its shape and (most importantly) protects against harmful UV rays. The fabric’s resistance to oils, sweat and chlorine make it the perfect material for lounging by the pool or for a day out at Sentosa.
What’s more, bikini tops and bottoms can be bought separately and mixed and matched, so you can give an ensemble a more personal touch!
Stylish and sexy, Mileti ticks all of my boxes. When it comes to cut out sections and more daring designs, there is the tendency for swimwear to look tacky and, well – distasteful, and I usually steer well clear. This collection, however, is balanced by a soft color palette and contrasted with simpler silhouettes, which evokes an air of sophistication and elegance that just oozes Italian style. Very resort.
Also, I’m not normally one for a one-piece swimsuit for fear of looking like an absolute frump, but Mileti’s look sizzling hot, especially the one shoulder Toga One Piece.
Prices for swimwear range from $79 to $299, and the collection will be available in stores from the end of February 2013 onwards. The label will also launch their online store in March 2013.
