Muffin Mania at The Muffinry

Let’s face it – who doesn’t love a muffin? In my book, there are times when only a muffin can get you over the worst mood, or perhaps you just feel like treating yourself and then it’s muffin time also. My go-to muffin flavour might be as chocolatey as you can get, but what about if you fancy something a bit different? Well then, may the muffins be with you…at The Muffinry.

The Muffinry is something of a muffin paradise. With a wonderful array of sweet and savoury muffins and with a weekly muffin roster to help you along the way on your muffin adventure (as well as all the everyday favourites) you could probably go and have a muffin there every day of the week and never get bored.

Let me show you what I mean. The everyday favourites (which are enough to drive you muffin mad just by themselves) are Apple Blueberry Crumble, Banana Chocolate Walnut, Double Chocolate and Spiced Carrot. Then the muffin roster for the week we were there, was this:

Monday: Lychee Raspberry; Lime Macadamia White Choc; Pepperoni Pizza; Tomato Pizza

Tuesday: Lavender Lemon; Orange Dark Choc, Almond; Green Eggs & Ham

Wednesday: Chamomile Honey Almond; Apple Pie Walnut; Green Eggs & Ham

Thursday: Lychee Raspberry; Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip; Tomato Pesto & Feta

and so on….

Given that ‘mini’ muffins mean you can try a whole stack more, we ordered 6 to taste on behalf of our Nomads…at $1.50 each how could we not! We plumped for a couple of the specials, plus some of the regulars…

and the verdict?

  1. The Double Chocolate, made with Valrhona (an exceptional French chocolate producer) chocolate and then two different kinds of chocolate chips. This is an absolute must and though I “sensibly” tried to eke this one out to make it last longer, you could go the other end of the scale (as did my muffin partner in crime Miss Melody) and just the whack the whole thing all in one go. In hindsight this strategy is much more satisfying as it delivers you to extreme chocolate heaven. Instantly. And boy is that gooooooood!
  2. The Lime Macadamia White Chocolate was also a winner – such a nice balance of sweet and zesty flavours, and soft white chocolate against the crunch of the nut. Deeeelish!

  3. The Banana Chocolate Walnut, extremely tasty and super homey with a nice subtle banana taste and oozy dark chocolate chips.
  4. The Lychee Raspberry, was just so different, so fragrant and sweet and with a lovely light fluffy texture to it and juicy chunks of lychee, finished off with a subtle raspberry puree
  5. The Signature Spiced Carrot was tender, mildy sweet and with a generous helping of crunchy walnuts giving it a very warm, comforting flavour indeed.
  6. The Apple Blueberry Crumble had a tough act to follow, and though while it sounded promising, somehow it just didn’t have enough blueberry flavour (we are demanding Nomads aren’t we!?) to float our boat. Nevermind.

Though we were on a muffin mission that particular day, from past visits I can also highly recommend the Carrot Cake ($4.50)

and Chocolate Fudge Brownie ($4.00)…

and it’s obviously only going to be a matter of time before I’m back to devour one of those Chocolate Tarts ($5.00)….or quite frankly any of the below!

And if you fancy something savoury, knowing how good everything else is, I’m guessing their savoury pies won’t let you down either.

Thanks to The Muffinry, it’s one small step for Muffins, One Giant Leap for Muffinkind. Live long and eat muffins? I’ll raise a muffin to that!

But this ain’t just one muffin-trick pony…at time of writing The Muffinry was beavering away working on another floor and extending their offerings…and I hear….that baked-to-order pies are on the menu. Oooh. La. La.
