Neon Lights Arts Programme: First Glance

Neon Lights also marks the Singapore premiere of the 2013 World Street Performance Champions The Lords of Strut – a much-loved physical comedy duo hailing from Ireland – as well as Australia’s The League of Sideshow Superstars with their unique brand of jaw-dropping stunts. These showstoppers will perform at the Club Minky venue during the day, along with a host of the region’s finest comics presented by Comedy Masala. Singapore’s very own drag superstar Becca D’Bus will run a very special festival edition of RIOT! with her fellow queens Noristar Narcisso, Mona Kee Kee and Ashley Fifty just before the sun sets and Club Minky transforms into a vinyl-lovers haven, with mind-blowing DJ sets from Mr Scruff and more.

Singapore’s premier spoken word festival returns for its seventh edition this year, in partnership with Neon Lights. Lit Up @ Neon Lights is a two-day literary and spoken word festival-within-a-festival. Presented by Word Forward and featuring up to 40 well-known authors, poets and performers, including esteemed UK headliners Francesca Beard, known for her thrilling one-woman spoken word shows, and Karen McCarthy-Wolf, shortlisted for the prestigious 2015 Forward Prize, Lit Up culminates in the much-loved Singapore National Poetry Slam Championship.

NeonKids is the children’s workshop series in the Cloud Factory venue specially designed and curated for children at a music festival by arts, drama and theatre superheroes MySuperFuture and encompassing wearable art, kinetic fun, neon accessories, making a music garden, and, of course, movement!

Full line-up and programme for Club Minky, Lit Up @ Neon Lights and NeonKids to be announced in the coming weeks, as well as details about The Sound Bar @ Cloud Factory – a series of sound, performance and video art collaborations curated by Noor Effendy Ibrahim and Easy Street – a celebration of street culture, performance and art – curated by Recognize Studios & Sideshow.

Neon Lights is a successful grant recipient of Singapore Tourism Board’s Kickstart Fund. Scootâ„¢ is the official airline for the festival.
