Singapore Art Fair makes its debut in November

First Art Fair in Asia Dedicated to the Art of ME.NA.SA Regions

Come November, the Singapore Art Fair will make its debut at Suntec Singapore. Happening from 27 to 30 November 2014, this contemporary art fair is the first in Asia that is dedicated to the rich artistic offerings of the ME.NA.SA regions (Middle East, North Africa, South & South-East Asia).

The inaugural edition will feature 60 galleries from around the world, 20 solo show booths from artists who are presenting their work internationally for the first time, and thematic platforms coordinated by renowned experts such as Catherine David and Janine Maamari. Interactive and multimedia performances are also among the highlights of the art fair.

Ms Laure d’Hauteville, Fair Director and Founder of the Singapore Art Fair and Beirut Art Fair said: ‘The Arab World and Asia have a lot of ties in term of cultural and historical heritage. We created the South East Asia Pavilion at the Beirut Art Fair in 2013 to highlight this synergy and this is also why we are launching the Singapore Art Fair this year.’

The Singapore Art Fair aims to reinforce Singapore’s role as the newest cultural destination at the heart of Asia, and a meeting point for new collectors, galleries, art patrons, artists and cultural institutions to exchange ideas.

Following the success of the Beirut Art Fair which was created four years ago to promote the art of the ME.NA.SA regions, the Singapore Art Fair will provide the opportunity for the organisers to bring their expertise and expand the scope of the Beirut Art Fair in Singapore and Asia.

Singapore Art Fair will feature thematic exhibitions that bring together artists, galleries, curators as well as collectors. It aims to broaden the public perspectives beyond what is usually featured in galleries and auctions, and deepen their knowledge about ME.NA.SA. art.

– Catherine David, independent curator, will present the Middle-Eastern art and creations in a pavilion dedicated to the artists of ME.NA. (Middle-East, North Africa). An esteemed figure in the international art world, she aims to present the complexity of artistic practices in a region made up of countries whose past and present are equally contrasting.

– Janine Maamari, curator of the Lebanese Pavilion, will present the trends of Lebanese contemporary art. An art collector currently based in Beirut, Janine aims to promote the art of the cedar country around the world. Having lived in Cairo, London, Paris, Abu Dhabi and Montreal, she has organised large scale exhibitions, offering the international audience opportunities to discover Lebanese art.
