Sri Mariamman Temple

Located in the heart of Chinatown, the Sri Mariamman Temple stands as a national monument with of its original structure being preserved since the early 1860s. During the Colonial days, the Temple served as a Registry of Marriages for Hindus, as that was the only authorise place that would solemnise Hindu marraiges.

With its richly adorned facade of six tiers of Hindu deities, today the Temple remains a popular cultural icon across generations of Hindu worshippers and Singaporeans alike. If you’re here throughout the October-November period, be sure to catch the Theemithi (Fire walking ceremony), which is held a week before the commencement of Deepavli, the festival of lights.
