Borrowed Identity is a chameleon in the electronic music scene. You can catch him playing a groovy house set or he can turn up and bang out uncompromising industrial techno if that’s what the crowd wants. His eclectic sets can often be full of disco, pop music, hiphop, jazz and all kinds of stuff or he can focus on one sound and take the crowd in one direction. He tries to give the crowds what they need to lose their minds, thats why he doesn’t stick to one sound like so many DJs with their image as the techno, deep house or whatever guy… He captures the vibe in every venue and goes with the flow of the people.
He is just young but wise beyond his years and has already played many of the renowned clubs in Europe and most parts of the world. He also already released all kinds of sounds and styles on important labels like Ostgut Ton, Circus Company, Mistress or Quintessentials.
Mr. G considers him as ‘…one of the new school leaders’ and his music has been supported and played regularly by heavyweights like Laurent Garnier, Mike Huckaby, Detroit Swindle, Len Faki, Move D, KiNK or DVS1 amongst many more.

Sam Barker grew up learning every instrument he could get his hands on and by age 13 he had started with his own electronic productions. In 2002 he moved to Brighton to study music, and became involved with the flourishing experimental scene there. He started promoting his own events under the name ‘Instrumentality’, encouraging improvisation, collaboration and electronic experiments there every week for four years. During this time he built up a sizeable collection of analogue hardware that became the backbone for his work as Voltek. In 2006 he started work for Ned Beckett at the Littlebig agency and a year later moved with the company to Berlin.
Being futuristic – really looking forward to music – has perhaps become less fashionable in some circles. Don’t tell that to people like UK-born Sam Barker, artist and co-founder of collective/label/party Leisure System. Sam is curating music tools and artists with the same electic passion, the same exploration of new sounds rather than comfy, tested nostalgia.
