The Top 5 Events not to miss at the 2014 World Gourmet Summit

It’s easy to get lost in the culinary sea that is the World Gourmet Summit. Wine tastings, dinners, charity events, cooking classes, cooking demonstrations and everything in between. An essential week in any true Singapore foodie’s calendar.

This year’s theme ‘The Classics’ is very fitting, with the Summit hosting a series of classically trained Michelin-starred Chefs as well as superb local talent. But where you should you begin? With events happening daily and special menus on offer at some of Singapore’s top restaurants over the course of the World Gourmet Summit, we thought we’d give you a basic rundown on our pick of the top 5 events happening at World Gourmet Summit 2014. 1) Citibank Gastronomic Jam Sessions Day 2

Day 2 of the Gastronomic Jam is a great opportunity to witness the talents of some of the visiting Chefs, as well as some awesome local talent like Chef Kenny Fu of My Humble House as they create and present some of their most popular culinary creations.  For the cooking enthusiasts among you, this is one not to be missed. It’s also only $70+ per person which is pretty reasonable.

The Citibank Gastronomic Jam Sessions is an all-day event going on from 9am-4.45pm Saturday 29th March at the Suntec Convention Centre Room 331-333. For more information and tickets ($70+ per person), click here.

2) Canon Food Photography at The Prime Society

Ok people, let’s admit it, we’ve all started taking photos of what we eat… For the serious food photography enthusiasts, this is an event you should definitely be checking out. Starting at 11am, Canon Imaging Academy Trainer Nugene Chiang will be leading a 3-hour food photography session. Best of all, you get to eat what you shoot during the class prepared by Chef International Master chef Ian Curley at The Prime Society.

3) Tamarind Carnival at Tamarind Hill

Probably one of Singapore’s most beautiful dining destinations will pay host throughout the WGS to a special menu of delicious Thai cuisine. However, if you’re looking for something a little special, for one night only the Chefs at Tamarind Hill will present a sumptuous buffet of contemporary and classic Thai street food. There will even be a live DJ and traditional Aspara dancers.

The Tamarind Carnival takes place 7pm-11pm Thursday March 27th at Tamarind Hill. For more information and tickets ($98++ per person), click here.

4) Nuit sur les quais de Paris at Restaurant Absinthe

Held at Restaurant Absinthe along Boat Quay, the ‘Night on the Paris Quayside’ is looking to be one of the of the most exciting dining events this year. Starting with Champagne and canapé on the boat, guests will then be lead back to the restaurant and treated to 5-course special menu with wine pairing.

5) Rougié Foie Gras Dinner

Yes, that’s right – a dinner devoted to Foie Gras, an 8-Course menu to be precise. Prepared and cooked no less than by expert Chef Ivan Brehm of Bacchanalia (former Chef at The Fat Duck under Heston Blumenthal). And if all that delicious Foie Gras isn’t indulgent enough for you, each course is paired with a carefully selected wine.
