5 Things To Do In Singapore This Week: 11th February To 17th February 2019

While your social feeds may still be gushing on Chinese New Year festivities or the upcoming Valentine’s Day, here are some equally great events to keep your week just as entertaining.

PlantsActually Pop-Up Market

Hosted by BooksActually and Math Paper Press, this quaint pop up is a humble attempt to offset the numerous other plants that were killed in the process of making paper, so drop by and purchase your own plant at PlantsActually. Here’s a quote from Ruth Ozeki’s novel to inspire your vegetation contemplations, “The tree was past and the paper present. Like a dream, it remembers its sap”.

PlantsActually is happening at BooksActually, 9 Yong Siak Street, Singapore 168645, on 16 – 17 February 2019 from 11am – 4pm. Entry is free.

Stupid Cupid Pub Crawl

This Valentine’s Day eve, set aside the sappy roses and cheap heart-shaped chocolates and crawl your way through Lime House, Gaston, and Neon Pigeon for a boozy good time. Clink glasses to your exes or take shots for potential new ones. Five drinks, prizes to win, kisses to share, and good ol’ eye candy (beware the beer goggles).

Stupid Cupid Bar Crawl is happening at various locations, starting at the Beer Garden, 1 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089109, on 13 February 2019 7pm – 11pm. Get your tickets here at $28.

Mad for SAM Party

Punning on their famous Made for Sam stickers, Singapore Art Museum goes bare for the Mad for Sam Party as it opens its doors for a weekend of fun before renovations. Enjoy iconic artworks like Dawn Ng’s neighbourhood bunny, WALTER, along with other exhibitions, artworks, outdoor music with DJ collectives Pushin’On and bands from Middle Class Cigars, and interactive multi-media pieces – including an animated GIF photobooth for your very own Mad for SAM souvenir.

Mad For Sam Party is happening at the Singapore Art Museum, 61 Stamford Road, #02-02, Stamford Court, Singapore 178892, on 16 – 17 February 2019 from 10am – 10pm. For the full schedule of the event, see their website here. Entry is free.

Appulse: Experimental Art & Music Show

Interstellar brings you guys an experimental art and music show featuring live clothes customization by Bali based artist, Harem Ican, and radical DJ sets by Russian artist OBGON and Interstellar’s resident Atika Altar. Melding together the two worlds of visual and aural arts, get ready for a night of post-punk tribal wear and psychedelic electronic music, packaged in the classic colonial space of kult on Emily Hill.

Appulse is happening at kult, Block C2-5, Emily Hill 11 Upper Wilkie Road, Singapore 228120, on 15 February 2019 from 8pm – 1am. Sign up for guestlist here.

Come down for Blackout Agency‘s first party of 2019 – another Ritual Nites affair. Party in their new home, The Substation, to the cosmic, mesmerising beats of London-based musician ERIC VOLTA – an artist who always pushes the boundaries. He’ll keep your night fresh with Live equipment on top of his DJ set up to take you on a musical journey in his famous All Night Long set. This is the party you don’t want to miss out on.

Justine is a down-to-earth girl who believes there’s always room for dessert. You can find her tucked away in Singapore’s hidden nooks, either reading or writing – but definitely eating. Otherwise, she spends most of her time volunteering at Touch Young Arrows, teaching children from low-income families.
