Esplanade Presents: Nils Frahm

After three years since his last live performance, the musical genius that is Nils Frahm is finally back on tour with All Melody. Making his Singaporean debut at the Esplanade for the Mosaic Music Series, the “cult king of ambient piano” will leave you mesmerised on 18 May 2018. Mixing classical with electronic, he carves his own musical path with his beautifully enchanting compositions that are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Ticket-holders will also get free entry to Blackout Agency Presents Rituals Feat. Kilo Lounge x Collective Minds: Present Shigeto (US)

Liberate yourself from the daily grind and get down with Shigeto at Kilo Lounge. Hailing from Michigan, Shigeto (aka Zach Saginaw) has a wide array of different musical influences that inspire his sublime, experimental creations. Throwing conventional rules out the window, he serves up an amalgamation of jazz, hip-hop and electronic music because when it comes down to it, “music is music”. Supporting him is William J (Darker Than Wax), so be there or be square!

Catch Shigeto on Thursday, 17 May 2018 at 8.30pm-10.30pm at Kilo Lounge. Advanced tickets priced at $40 and tickets at the door priced at $50.  

Mamasitas – A Latin Themed Mother’s Day Party

Who cares if Mother’s Day was last weekend, it’s never too late to celebrate the most important women in your life. Party it up with mom latin style with Mamasitas at Kult Kafe. Bring the whole family down for an afternoon of fun with games for the kids, DJs and live music to dance along to and let’s not forget the Latin bazaar with Latin food and drink! Make mom the star this weekend at Mamasitas!

Mamasitas is happening on 19 May 2018, from 2pm-10pm at Kult Kafe. Pre-sale tickets are priced at $18 for adults and $12 for children aged between 12-16 years. They are available here. Tickets at the event are priced at $20 for adults and $14 for children aged between 12-16 years.

garden•uprooted

garden•uprooted is a multi-disciplinary performance that incorporates music with dance-theatre. Challenging the idea of the garden as a sanctuary, this work features nature-inspired music by acclaimed Japanese composer Tōru Takemitsu. Helmed by Cultural Medallion recipients Maestro Lim Yau and Choreographer Angela Liong, the performance is supported with an inter-generational cast comprising of senior citizens alongside Arts Fission’s professional and student dancers, as well as musicians from The Philharmonic Orchestra – you’re certainly in for a visual and aural treat.

garden•uprooted is taking place at the Esplanade Theatre on 19 May 2018 at 8pm. Tickets are priced at $27 and available here

Amek Gambar: Peranakans And Photography

There’s just something about vintage photos, isn’t there? This week, The Peranakan Museum presents the first historical exhibition of one of the largest collections of Peranakan photography. See how the Peranakan community captured and projected themselves to the world through the medium of photographs.

With over 200 photographs and portraits included, find the oldest example from The Singapore National Collection, a portrait of a Peranakan family dating as far back as 1857!
