Oktoberfest in Germany might be over, but things are just getting started in our fair city. In the name of King Ludwig I and his wife – their matrimony was the source of this 200-year old festival of fun and debauchery – it’s time to break out the lederhosen and the dirndl, and get your beer-chugging game on. Prost!
Oktoberfest Asia
Probably the closest we’ll ever get to the real thing, Oktoberfest Asia is back after a successful run last year. Keeping true to the Bavarian festival, the organizers are bringing in some of Bavaria’s finest breweries (Schneider Weisse, Paulaner, and Weihenstephan), gourmet Bavarian food, a true blue München band, and the world-renowned Original Hofbrauhaus Show. Regular tickets start from $95 with a pint of beer and a three-course Bavarian dinner while VIP tickets start at $180 for 5 hours of free-flow beer.
Oktoberfest Asia is happening 9-10 Oct from 5pm and 11 Oct 2014 from 3pm, at Marina at Keppel Bay, 2 Keppel Bay Vista, Singapore 098382. For more information and tickets, see website.

Starting with a porky platter of an appetizer, the Barbecued Pig’s Ear with Lemongrass and Pomelo Salad follows – a combination that plays on textures and tastes a lot better than it sounds. The Pig’s Tail in Sour Tamarind Soup was a hit for us, as well main course Roasted Pork Neck in Red Curry (though you also have a choice of Five Spices Pork Knuckle with Apple Som Tam for the main).
Tamarind Hill is located at 30 Labrador Villa Road, Singapore 119189. Open Mon-Sun 12-3pm, 6.30-10.30pm.
