St Patrick’s Day Weekend Street Festival!

Annual St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will turn the Singapore River into a sea of green, donned with shamrocks and all things Irish

Green is the colour of celebration this March as, following up from last year’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Singapore River One (SRO) announces that it will be hosting this year’s St. Patrick’s Day Street Festival from 14 – 16 March 2014 at Boat Quay and the adjacent Circular Road.

Over 20,000 attended the three-day event in 2013, which included Irish music and dance performances, food and drink promotions, demonstrations in Irish sports and the much-anticipated St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Members of Singapore’s Irish and expatriate communities, Singaporeans and tourists showed up in full force – decked out in all shades of green – to celebrate all things Irish.

The yearly street festival once more promises a celebration of the close historical and cultural, educational and community ties between the Republic of Ireland and Singapore – two island nations with much in common.

Currently the largest Irish celebration in South-East Asia, this year’s celebrations will be a three-day event, continuing in the same vein as the 2013 edition, and will be celebrating all things Irish, including traditional and contemporary Irish music, dance and street performers.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be held on Sunday 16th March 2014. Participants will be asked to assemble outside the Asian Civilisation Museum (near the statue of Sir Stamford Raffles) at 2.30pm. The parade march will commence at 3.30pm, come rain or shine.

St. Patrick’s Day, Ireland’s National Day, falls on the 17th of March and commemorates the life of the patron saint of Ireland. Millions around the world celebrate this cultural festival by wearing green, participating in parades and processions, and celebrating the rich global legacy of the Irish in education, music, the arts, food, drink and sport.
