In a dramatic tale of unrequited love and tragic irony, a proud and cynical aristocrat, Eugene Onegin, finds himself the victim of his own devices when he callously rejects the love of the young and naive Tatiana, only to suffer the same fate when he falls in love with her years later. His cruel actions set in motion a devastating trail of death and regret that also results in the loss of his best friend.

Based on Russian author Alexander Pushkin’s landmark narrative poem of the same name, Onegin explores the struggles of love, passion, duty and the cold constructs of social convention in this timeless work that takes you back to the grand, opulent world of Imperial Russia.

The Stuttgart Ballet

With a rich history that dates back to the 17th century, the Stuttgart Ballet has, for over five decades, prided itself for being in the vanguard of modern ballet. After the appointment of John Cranko as Artistic Director in 1961, the provincial dance company became a global phenomenon as Cranko won the world over with his groundbreaking interpretations of Romeo and Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew and Onegin. His triumphs, called “the Stuttgart Ballet miracle”, not only marked the company’s most important chapter in its history but also catapulted it to the ranks of the world’s premier ensembles.
