A.T.O.S Asian Tapas

A.T.O.S is Royal Plaza on Scotts’ recent bid to join the ranks of hip and trendy hotel bars. It somewhat succeeds with its neon/glow furnishings (which might be a little disorienting at first), but we feel like it’s trying too hard with some items on the menu. The clear winners are definitely the cold starters like Spicy Octopus in Lime Vinaigrette and Prawns in Aromatic Thai Spices and the desserts (we like the Sticky Pandan Rice and Crispy Durian Fritters).

Their renditions of local favourites like Chili Crab Mantous and Aromatic Chicken Rice Balls satisfy but are nothing to rave about, though we did like the dip that came with the latter. Drinks-wise, the cocktail list features adventurous combinations – try the Mango Halia, Choco-nut Chendol, and Yuzu Kazu.

Overall, this is a worthy and surprisingly affordable (cocktails at $12 and tapas from $9-$12) option for a night out with friends.

When Joel’s not partaking in one of his shameless eating sessions, he likes to think of himself as a sponge – absorbing the mysteries and beauty of our world – be it through a good book or a wacky jaunt in a foreign country.
