Blindfold Contact Dance Jam

This is a Blindfold Contact Dance Jam, where we subtract our (usually dominant) visual sense to heighten the rest of all our other senses. We will follow the flow, and connect with each with other in a playful and focused way, but often without even knowing who we are dancing with, as we explore the intimate experience of being blind in the center of an evolving organism larger than ourselves.
You do not need experience as we keep it slow and kinetically low. Safely slow and low…. Crawl, sit, lay, roll, dance, explore, move and generally have an awesome time exploring the blind field with an emphasis on slow motion flow. Blindfolds will be provided, and we will have sighted spotters to ensure safety of all participants. 🙂
Contact Improvisation is spontaneous movement which often includes physical contact. There are no steps to learn, because we are just following the movement as it arises. Leading or following, fast or slow, exploring and responding to every moment. We can enjoy the freedom of not knowing what will happen next. Contact Improv is like a moving massage, fine-tuning the senses, and reawakening one’s ability to listen with the body.
The evening will begin with a brief introduction and simple exercises, followed by a Jam (free movement space with music). No prior experience necessary. Just come along and tune in. As the dance is always arising spontaneously, there is no way you can get it wrong.
Rolf Gibbs has facilitated Ecstatic Dance and Contact Jams around the world during the past decade. Five years ago, he started the first Ecstatic Dance at the Yoga Barn in Ubud.
