There’s nothing more inspiring than Mother Nature & her way of creating outstanding beauty from nothing. I was never great at the sciences, so had to google “how are crystals formed?” and apparently it has something to do with molecules and nucleation, erm…ok! But what I do know is that this season, beautiful

crystals in their raw and uncut beauty were all over the runways, not in a trippy hippy/feel the flowers/incense way, but totally modern and almost futuristic in their presentation. Karl Largerfeld paid homage to the great outdoors in his Chanel collections, noting “Nature’s the greatest designer”. But you’re probably thinking, we’re talking about Chanel here… just one look at the Chanel Rose Quartz clutch and its ‘price on application’, it’s clear that we’re not talking a ‘little bit’ outside of our budget, more like ‘somewhere in outer space, beyond the realms’ outside!

Thankfully, here in Singapore we have our very own budget-friendly By Invite Only who create masterpieces of jewellery using crystals in slightly raw and unfinished-looking settings –  the results are quite spectacular. Rather fittingly By Invite Only have named their latest collection ‘Nebulous’. Inspired by the galactic and nature’s role in this universe, By Invite Only use crystals like Quartz, Sodalite, Lapiz Lazuli, Amethyst and Onyx to create high impact pieces. It’s just happens that crystals are a huge trend right now, because By Invite only were doing it way before it became fashionable. But as they say fortune favours the bold and they are now achingly on trend.

Founded in 2009 and based in Singapore, By Invite Only is the heart and soul of Trixie Khong, designer and brand manager who not content with her Diploma in Chemical Engineering  (WHAT??!!!) decided to take the plunge and turn her hobby into a business. By Invite Only’s jewellery pieces are far from being commercial and mass produced; each product being slightly different because crystals are not uniform, nature tends not to be. The stones are sourced from wonderful exotic places and hand-made and assembled by the designer herself in Singapore. There is an element of the magical, the other-worldly. Her jewellery makes me think of Kryptonite except whereas if Superman comes into contact with Kryptonite, he instantly becomes very weak. Come into contact with By Invite Only’s galactic offerings and you’ll instantly become totally fierce and very cool.
