Tradition Meets Lifestyle at Inaugural Chinese Culture Week

This September, immerse yourself in Chinese traditions with the inaugural Chinese Culture Week. Organised by the Camellia Culture & Business Centre in collaboration with DesignSingapore Council and China Culture Centre, the five-day cultural festival sees exhibitions and shows across the field of fashion, photography, craft, and calligraphy.
Celebrating the rich tapestry of Chinese heritage and lifestyle in a modern and engaging way, there’s something for every sort of visitor, from the Chinese scholar to the non-Chinese speaking. While a forum on Contemporary Chinese Culture and a Gala Night is by invitation only, there’s still several free events at CCW that are open to the public. Here’s what’s up!
Fashion Tales From The Orient
The traditional Chinese garment, qipao, takes centerstage in this showcase of fashion labels from Singapore and China. The finest designers from both countries, including China’s Lan Yu and Singapore’s Kevin Seah will be featuring their interpretations of the qi pao, along with local brands Chi Chi Von Tang, Time Taken to Make a Dress, and Something Old Something New.

Fan Zhou Solo Calligraphy Exhibition
A renowned calligrapher born in Inner Mongolia, Fan Zhou is the leading expert in two kinds of calligraphy styles, is an outstanding poet, collector, and a much sought after visiting scholar. Following his graduation from the prestigious Beijing International Studies University, he has served as a visiting professor and tutor in Sinology for foreign experts, and his works displayed in Beijing, Shanghai, Japan, and now Singapore.

The Silk Road Journey: Photography Exhibition
Featuring the work of award-winning National Geographic Magazine photographer Michael Yamashita, One Belt One Road— The Silk Road Journey pays tribute to the legendary explorers Zheng He and Marco Polo, retracing their journeys through the ancient trade routes. The exhibition reflects how nature, culture, and history have evolved in this belt over the years, and also highlights how Singapore has become an important stop in the 21st century Maritime Silk Road.

Qipao Masterclass
The qipao is one of the most typical traditional garments worn by Chinese women, designed to look like a colourful and charming flower. Hosted by a qipao master, this Qipao Masterclass provides you with an overview on the basics of qipao creation, and the defining factors of designing a well-fitted piece.
