Darker Than Wax showcase feat. Basic Soul Unit with Maxx Mortimer & Cosa Nostra

Submerge in a trinity of sonic union at the Darker Than Wax Showcase at kyo this March – as founders Cosa Nostra (SG) are joined by guests and label mates Basic Soul Unit (Canada) and Maxx Mortimer (NZ).

Maxx Mortimer’s (NZ) solid affiliation to bass did not deter him from exploring other musical trajectories – as of late, the 120 to 130 bpm range. With his recent ‘Don’t Hesitate’ picked up and played on Roska’s Rinse FM show in January 2014 (listen here), Maxx creatively breaks away from limitations to pursue new sounds – unearthing his distinctly fresh take on groove and funk.

Fresh out of a RBMA x Boiler Room set in Toronto (listen here), Basic Soul Unit (CAN) graces us with his presence once again with his exquisite repertoire of raw Techno and House. With releases under Nonplus Records, Ostgut Ton, and Midnight Shift, BSC represents an unassumingly darker, industrial spectrum of the Darker Than Wax sound.

Label founders Kaye and Funk Bastard make up Cosa Nostra, a ‘quasi-electronic’ act which reflects their passion and dexterity in the diaspora of black music. Through their eclectic and poignant live performances, which encompass styles of Funk, Boogie, House, and beyond, Cosa Nostra’s dedication to the craft injects a profound significance, which speaks volumes on varying aspects on their production, performance, and vision of Darker Than Wax.

Public Admission $20 for ladies, $25 for men (incl. 1 drink)
