Gillman Barracks Singapore

gillman barracks singapore art gallery

Originally built in 1936 to accommodate the expansion of the British infantry in Singapore, today the Gillman Barracks’s sprawling compound is home to 17 art galleries, easily becoming one of Singapore’s leading contemporary arts centres.

These days, Gillman Barracks continues to be a great place off the beaten track for your dose of history and arts. We really enjoyed soaking up the offerings of the local arts scene at the Art After Dark event earlier this year, which featured site-specific performance art, live music by local jazz musicians, and DRIVE, the Barracks’ first festival of curated public artworks.

On top of all the sights to take in, there are also great restaurants like Mason and The Naked Finn, and even beloved live local music bar Timbre – ensuring that your experience at Gillman Barracks is an all-rounded one! Definitely a space to keep an eye out for.

Admission is free. For specific directions, please see here.

When Joel’s not partaking in one of his shameless eating sessions, he likes to think of himself as a sponge – absorbing the mysteries and beauty of our world – be it through a good book or a wacky jaunt in a foreign country.
