Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha)

Regarded as the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand, Wat Phra Kaew is also located in the grounds of the majestic Grand Palace. Phra Kaew Morakot (the Emerald Buddha), is an image of Buddha which was carved from a single block of jade, and only the King of Thailand is allowed near the statue. Other highlights of Wat Phra Kaew include an imitation of Angkor Wat, a Balcony with murals telling the tale of the Ramayana, and five-metre tall ‘Yaksa Tavarnbal’ (Gate-keeping Giants), who ‘protect’ the Balcony.

Things to note: Wat Phra Kaew is Thailand’s most sacred site and conservative dressing is a requirement.
