Herbal healing with Lina Adam

Lina Adam is assisted by Ziggy Ziggz and Bridget Tay. The event is held in conjunction with the exhibition ‘Rendez-vous’.

In this performance, to be held on the evening of the opening of ‘Rendez-vous’, Lina Adam invites visitors to sample jamu. Jamu is a traditional herbal medicinal drink that is well known in Indonesia and other parts of Southeast Asia. Adam will prepare and serve the medicinal drink from a specially constructed Javanese-style drinks cart stationed outside the Earl Lu Gallery.

Lina Adam discovered jamu while seeking a therapy for her own physical and emotional stresses. Jamu can be made at home and its natural ingredients are available in local markets in Singapore. There are hundreds of jamu recipes purported to improve a great variety of ailments from body aches to lack of good looks and poor stamina. Adam will share a small selection of family recipes for this one-night performance art event.

Join Lina Adam at her jamu-making demonstration and discover the positive effects of this traditional medicinal drink.

‘Rendez-vous’ is an international platform organised by the Biennial of Lyon; the Museum of Contemporary Art Lyon; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes; and the National School of Fine Arts in Lyon. The platform invites curators from these institutions and 10 international biennales, including the Istanbul Biennial and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, to nominate emerging artists at the forefront of their contemporary art scenes.

This exhibition—curated in collaboration with the ICA Singapore—highlights connections between works by 20 nominated artists alongside works by 5 local artists selected by the ICA Singapore. Presented across our largest galleries, the exhibition explores these artists’ innovative approaches to contemporary ideas, media and aesthetic experience.

This event will take place on Friday, 19 June 2015, 7:30pm – 9pm at The Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore. For more information, please see [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/events/651255391643305/).
