Salleh Japar: Talwin and tamkin

‘Talwin and tamkin’ explores materials, iconography and motifs in the art of Salleh Japar (b. 1962, Singapore). Focusing on paintings and works on paper made over the past three decades, the exhibition highlights the works’ textural and graphic qualities, which include organic matter, geometry and Malay symbolism. Conceived as physical objects and images, the works also draw on Salleh’s longstanding interests in Islamic philosophy and Southeast Asian arts and culture.

Salleh Japar is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Fine Arts at LASALLE College of the Arts. ‘Talwin and tamkin’ is his first solo exhibition in 10 years.
