Hotel Review: Fusion Suites Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City – A Boutique Hotel Experience in District 1

The literal heart of the city, Ho Chi Minh City‘s District 1 is bustling – cluttered even – with historical monuments and tasty street food sitting cheek by jowl with modern office buildings, fancy restaurants, and cocktail bars. Having stayed at another hotel for a couple of nights before moving to Fusion Suites Saigon within District 1, the difference in feeling upon arriving at the leafy side street the all-suite hotel was situated at, was palpable and a very pleasant surprise.

With trees as tall as 20 metres lining the street, arriving at Fusion Suites Saigon definitely refreshed our mood for travel and new experiences. The first good impression was that the hotel design team extended the hotel lobby to the pavement in a way, through floor-to-ceiling glass windows and an al fresco terrace lounge. To us, this brings elements of a resort to a city in that laidback and casual way that we like.

Location & Space

The glass doors open into a high ceilinged and airy space, where we were welcomed by what the Vietnamese hotel brand calls Fusionistas – the more down-to-earth option to butlers and concierges. Two things that we noticed quite quickly, that are also hallmarks of the hotel design, is the heavy use of wood in its build, as well as wall art depicting locals selling all kinds of goods at the market – a connection to Vietnam’s street culture that anyone can enjoy.

Despite its prime location in District 1, Fusion Suites Saigon is, in our opinion, the most perfect respite from the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City. Overall, it feels like an oasis even thought it’s steps from one of Ho Chi Minh City’s oldest park, and an easy walk to attractions like Ben Thanh Market, War Remnants Museum, the Reunification Palace, and the Notre Dame Cathedral.

Rooms & Suites

Corner Suite

A. small property at just 70 plus rooms and suites, Fusion Suites Saigon’s entry category is the Single Room at 25 square metres (269 square feet) while Suites start at 32 square metres (344 square feet), available in twin or king sized beds. However, for a romantic city getaway, we highly recommend their spacious Corner Suites (42 square metres, 452 square feet) that only come with king beds, as it comes with more space and additional glass floor to ceiling windows to take in the surrounding greenery and vibrant cityscape.

Corner Suite Bathroom

The open-plan living space with a kitchenette equipped with mini-bars and microwaves also sports wood on the ceiling for a homey vibe – something we greatly appreciated when food delivery is affordable and easily accessible, should one wish to enjoy the room. Plus, with the ceiling fan and wooden flooring, walking around barefooted in the room rings in another point for homeliness for the Southeast Asians. For those travelling with kids, Fusion Suites Saigon has Family Suite rooms at the same size as the Corner Suite, that caters to the littlies with an additional room with a bunk bed

Hammock Bathtub

Another noteworthy point about Fusion Suites Saigon (and definitely worth the splurge) is the bathrooms. While not overly huge, our Corner Suite ensuite bathroom had separate spaces for the toilet, rain shower, and hammock-inspired bathtubs. Compared to the usual sunken or floor level vessels, the hammock tubs might look abit suspicious suspended, but we can assure you it’s comfortable. And it holds weight well enough, such that we had a bath every night to wind down.

Facilities & Amenities

While Fusion Suites Saigon is not a five-star hotel in the traditional sense, guests can look forward to amenities like in-room dining, an all-day dining space Fresh, and a in-house Maia Spa. As we were in Ho Chi Minh mainly to check out the food and beverage scene, we didn’t get to indulge in spa treatments that started from US$25 for a 30-minute head and shoulder therapy.

Fresh RestaurantWith their in-house all-day diner Fresh Restaurant, you’ll never be hungry at Fusion Suites Saigon. Guests have the option of having breakfast in their suites between 6am to 10.30am daily, but we chose to enjoy ours in the restaurant given the more extensive buffet line. Besides continental delights like viennoiserie, cold cuts, and salads, local delights such as Pho and Bánh Truyền Thống – Vietnamese rice cakes with pork and seafood – made the all-you-can-eat spread. If you’re in a hurry, grab your coffee mang di (to-go) and get a 15% discount.

Designed to bring peace and harmony to the modern urban adventurer, Fusion Suites Saigon is really the perfect home base amidst the chaos of Ho Chi Minh City’s District One. With superior comfort, head-turning design, and down-to-earth luxury,  we can’t wait for our next visit to another property with the hospitality brand.

Fusion Suites Saigon is located at 3-5, Đ. Sương Nguyệt Anh, Street, Quận 1, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh 71000, Vietnam. Rates start from US$120 per night.
