MYthology- unleash your inner goddess

There is a new addition to the bijoux enclave of Club St, an unashamedly feminine and luxurious boutique, MYthology.

Stepping into MYthology you are instantly hit with a riot of colour, no minimalist cool palettes here. The patrons of this store will be women who embrace bold hues and have no wish to fade quietly into the background. Carrying labels from all over Asia, but predominantly from India, the collections are vibrant and carry heritage detailing which for me, stands this boutique apart from others. It’s glitzy, a little over the top even, but totally honest about it. The twinkly light fittings and plush fixtures are a mile away from the standard white-wash walls, industrial aesthetic that is now so common place in fashion boutiques and I gotta tell you, I like the glamour! Undoubtedly high end, MYthology will hurt your wallet but if you can cast the guilt aside and embrace your inner goddess, it feels a bit like stepping into a Bollywood dream.

NAO

Created by Neha Oberoi, NAO is a Singaporean label with its roots in Indian glamour. With Bottega Veneta on her CV it is hardly unexpected that Neha’s designs are luxurious and exclusive. But while her collection hints at her Gucci Group influence, she draws on her Asian background to make her collections distinctive.

‘The traditional sari can be elegant, sensual and impactful,” says creator Neha Oberoi. “It is idyllic in its effect but it’s not easy to wear. I love emulating [that] feel and draping in a modern dress that is beautiful and effortless to wear.”

TOTON

Exquisitely embroidered, bold and vivacious is the Toton aesthetic.  Indonesian Toton Januar was no doubt influenced by his country’s rich artisan culture and distinctive handicrafts but also, quite touchingly by his mother, who raised him single-handedly and introduced him to the world of fashion through her work as a seamstress. There is a real sense of adornment and beauty in his work and a sense of purpose as he creates beautiful clothes for strong, powerful women.

NIKASHA

Nestled in the back room is a candy-coloured treasure trove of glitz and glam. If you ever wondered where the well heeled ladies in need of a Sari shop in Singapore go, let me tell you, from now on, it’s probably here. Silk and chiffon in a myriad of zesty colours, delicate embroidery, and eye-catching details reveal her bohemian, luxe roots as she draws on traditional, but evokes a modern, exotic woman. Having dressed a number of Bollywood actresses, Nikasha Tawadey knows how to do chic glam.

ARPAN VOHRA

Arpan Vohra creates sexy, sexy dresses. Chic, young, refined, fresh and very sexy are just some of the terms that define his design sensibility. Often using draping, delicate chiffon, colour and beadwork, his dresses appear to be a homage to the female form.

Originally from India, Arpan studied at The London College of Fashion, before returning home to launch his label.  With a clientele that reads like a who’s who of the Indian elite, he is well known for creating impressive gowns with a WOW factor.

EINA AHLUWALIA

Eina Ahluwalia’s jewellery is ‘intricate and intense, subtle yet strong’. Highly wearable and very fashion relevant, her pieces are handcrafted by master craftsmen in Kolkata, keeping traditional skills alive that have been passed down generations, and shunning mass production. I absolutely loved the cuff pictured above and also this ring, which looks like it may bring about Superman’s downfall. Statement cocktail ring? I think this will have it covered.

I’ll leave the last word to MYthology’s founder, Aspara Oswal. “I would like to introduce more colours into the wardrobes of women in Singapore. The pieces we have handpicked are very distinctive and I believe they will encourage shoppers to be more adventurous. I hope that MYthology will be able to influence the way women dress and how they perceive themselves.”
