A derivative of the German word for ‘stronger’, the homegrown Stärker Group has indeed grown from strength to strength, with seven outlets between two concepts – the latest being the affordable, multi-cuisine Stärker Q. The one thing they definitely have in common? Serving Stärker Fresh Beer. Known for its entirely cold-chained delivery system and a firm seven-day shelf life policy, one never gets flat beer at Stärker. And great news for those who love brews with a fuller body; the local brewery has a recent addition to their German-style line-up, the amber-hued, malty Ale.

The best part? Pint lovers don’t even need to put their money where their mouth is. Over the next two Fridays, Stärker Bistro at HillV2 and Stärker Signature Tanjong Pagar Centre will be giving away 600 half pints of Ale from 6pm, on 26 January and 2 February 2018 respectively. Naturally, both outlets have expansive menus (designed for sharing so take your mates) to accompany all that beer drinking, making for a memorable #TGIF.

Sweet, rich, and smooth, the Ale – served in a festive-looking 2-litre wooden barrel – goes well with Stärker’s Traditional Pork Knuckle ($43.80), served with a light house-made beer sauce, fried onions, tomatoes, and potato mash. It’s massive to say the least, so thankfully, the pork cravings are also satisfied by the Crispy Roasted Pork Belly ($16.80). The crackling game is on point either way, and we appreciate the near perfect ratio of meat to fat to crackling of the latter.

If you’re more in the mood for spicy nibbles (and fried food), the new Chilli Crab Fries ($12.80) and the Fiery Wings ($13.80) will satisfy. The wings were fiery indeed, and washing them down with the Ale was a pleasure. For more crowd-pleasing bar bites, Muchos Nachos ($11.80) hits the right spot with the classic combination of corn chips topped with ground beef sauce and melted cheese while the Chilli Crab Sliders ($18.80) – think soft shell crab deep fried to golden brown with the same tangy chili crab sauce between two halves of a toasted butter bun – is a more substantial alternative.

Besides the Ale, there are five more beers in the Stärker range to choose from: half pints go for $8.90; full pints for $16.90; 2-litre barrels at $63.90; and 5-litre barrels at $148.00. Those looking for something fruity and floral will do well with Lychee; sweet and floral on the nose from Belgium lychee, the pale golden, medium bodied lager bears hints of tartness and a crisp finish. It’s great with seafood dishes like a comforting plate of Vongole ($19.80) pasta and the Gambas Al Ajillo ($14.80) dish of garlic shrimp, which packs a spicier punch than its counterpart in Spain would – and we’re totally here for it. For a darker beer, try the roasty, full-bodied Stärker Charcoal for a distinctive aftertaste. Have a meaty main or the handcrafted eight-inch pork Pepperoni ($16.80) with it.

With all the trappings of an establishment ideal for post-work drinks – fresh beer, hearty nosh, and staff that keep tabs on your beer mug to change it so your beer stays cold – don’t miss any of the 1,200 half-pints they’re giving away over the next two Fridays!

Stärker Ale is now available across Stärker Bistro (Katong Square, Zhongshan Park and HillV2), Stärker Signature (Tanjong Pagar Centre and Holland Village, and Stärker Q (Punggol Town Plaza and JEM). The giveaways are happening from 6pm, 26 January 2018 at Stärker Bistro, #01-02 HillV2, 4 Hill View Rise, Singapore 667979 and on 2 February 2018 at Stärker Signature, #01-17/18 Tanjong Pagar Centre, 5 Wallich Street, Singapore 078883.
