The Family Tree by Vanessa Linares

Barnadas Huang celebrates a very special Christmas this year with Vanessa Linares’ first solo exhibition in Asia, titled “The Family Tree”.  In this exhibition, she examines relationships in different forms and colours. Through a series of works with white and black backgrounds, Vanessa, who is heavily inspired by Japanese manga, brings her own interpretation and understanding of the world around her to the canvas.

For Vanessa, painting is an act through which she applies her memories and imagination on the canvas.  As she experiences new memories, thoughts and sensations, their influence work its way into her pieces.  Born into a family of seven, she grew up in the lively and sunny neighbourhood of Verneda, in Barcelona. There, she learnt to create a world with no boundaries using her own imagination. Timed to coincide with the festive season, the idea of family and friendship is pervasive in all her paintings in this collection. As the animals in the paintings soar through the skies and congregate in circles, the viewer is reminded of the relationships that connect and bind us together.

The Family Tree by Vanessa Linares runs from 20 December 2014 till 16 January 2015.
