Your calendar might look a little empty now that the spooky season is well over (we’re sure you attended your fair share of parties), but there’re still loads to do this week in our tiny city. From getting a head start on Christmas shopping to great German flicks, and maybe some adult fun on the weekend, check out our top 5 things to do:

IndoChine Green Festival 2014

In its 11th year, The IndoChine Group has been championing green causes like conservation and sustainable environments for 11 years through their Green Festival. This four-day event will see celebrities and experts inspiring us to do care more for Mother Earth, such as the Wildlife Conservation Club forum held in collaboration with the African Apes this year. Foodies, check out their 5-course sustainable cusine dinner with wine pairing at their Club Street restaurant on Thursday.

Boutiques at Pit Building

With a theme like Spoil Those You Love – Spoil Yourself, this pop-up shopping extravaganza will leave you very happy, albeit with lighter pockets (they take cash, plastic, and cheques, so no excuses folks). Expect more than 100 vendors and brands like Killari Jewellery, homeware from The Weave Co., and Matter, who work with artists in India to produce pretty pants in unique fabrics and patterns. You can also chill out at the Paper + White Lounge and indulge in a glass of vino or two.

German Film Festival 2014

The 18th year of the German Film Festival also marks the historical anniversaries like the centenary of World War I and the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, so in commemoration, films like Diplomacy and Merry Christmas have joined the line-up of 40 movies to be screened. Other shows we’re looking forward to include Age of Cannibals (touted as the German version of The Wolf of Wall Street) and arthouse production Stations of the Cross, which takes a look at religious fundamentalism.

Villa Sunplaza/Time Lost Falling in Love

Independent online art gallery Thieves Market is presenting their first solo show for homegrown artist, Rizibe, who’ll be putting up an idyllic narrative of urban emancipation revolving around a fictitious villa on the Island of the Gods, Bali and the city dwellers it attracts. Expect a familiar story unfolding across Rizibe’s prints, paintings, and drawings of various scales and marvel in his ability to capture the ephemeral quality in life.

Adult Playground

If you guys are like us and are fans of sports and music, check out Adult Playground, where alternative sporting experiences will take centrestage. We’ve already raved about the 5 activities we’re excited to try like Archery Tag and Hamster Wheel, and we’re glad that the organizers are not neglecting our other needs by having food trucks The Travelling C.O.W and Kerbside Gourmet as part of the festival. From 5-7pm, party on with beloved local music-makers The Sam Willows, Jack & Rai, and Gentle Bones.
