One of the best things to do in Bali – watching the sun light up the sky in brilliant hues of pink, orange, and purple as it dips below the horizon with an ice cool drink in hand, of course. So sit back, relax and enjoy the magic of the tropics because here are our favourite spots to catch the sunset in Bali.
Potato Head Beach Club
Being one of the most iconic destinations for good times and international DJs in Bali makes it hard to get a table at Potato Head at times. With its unique coloured windows, this restaurant and bar has it all – unpretentious food, cosy ambience, and great drinks. Designed in a U-shape with an infinity pool overlooking the beautiful beach, the best way to enjoy Potato Head is lazing on their daybeds from for a sun bathing session from early afternoon to sipping on cocktails through sunset.
Potato Head Beach Club is located at Jalan Petitenget, No. 51B, Seminyak, Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali.
707 Beach Berm
707 (short for 707 Beach Berm) was just a shack a couple of years ago and it has become one of the many local expats’ favourite sunset spot to go to. Located on Pantai Batu Belig, 707 feels like the place for a pre-game, or for anyone with a discerning taste of house and techno music and DJs setting the mood right from 5pm – 8pm. With Bintang beers priced at only RP 25K and a grilled corn cart parked right beside bar, this place (in our words) is perfect for a casual sunset hang. Swing by early and grab a spot to catch the sunset!
707 Beachberm is located on Jalan Batu Belig.
A lively Spanish beach bar filled with colourful, cushy beanbags and traditional Balinese umbrellas, it’s easy to see why La Plancha attracts the holy trinity of locals, expats, and tourists. With a crowd-pleasing menu of tapas, salads and seafood alongside a good variety of cocktails, it’s great for big groups and pre-dinner drinks.
La Plancha is located at Jalan Mesari Beach, Seminyak, Kuta, Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
In Seminyak, a security guard sits next to the little W Hotel sign, which acts as a pick up and drop off point. Buggies will be summoned to take to you the lobby of the hotel, from whence you enter the wonderful threshold of WooBar. Known for its magnificent sunset view and direct access to Seminyak Beach, cocktails (such as the I-Candy – cachaca, lime, brown sugar, and a mountain of cotton candy) are definitely fancier here. FYI: there’s complimentary pizza and one-for-one signature cocktails between 4-6pm on Mondays to Thursdays too.
WooBar is located at W Retreat and Spa Bali, Jalan Petitenget, Seminyak, Bali 80361, Indonesia.
A Seminyak pioneer, La Lucciola is a modern Italian Restaurant sitting right on one of the best stretches of Petitenget Beach with unblocked views of the Indian Ocean. Perfect for a relaxing evening or a romantic dinner while enjoying the sunset, just note that to get to the restaurant, you have to cut through the parking lot of its neighbour, the Petitenget Temple.
La Lucciola is located at Pantai Petitenget, Jalan Kayu Aya, Kerobokan, Kuta Utara, Badung, Bali.
Located in front of the now defunct Mozaic Beach Club, Warung Pantai is an unpretentious, casual eatery sitting on Batu Belig Beach – basically your classic beach shack warung. The menu is simple and straightforward with a decent selection of Indonesian and several Western dishes.
Warung Pantai is located at Jalan Batu Belig No. 14, Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali.
By the same people behind La Plancha and La Favela, this bohemian decorated beach bar is located through some rocky road in Canggu, but it’s definitely worth it. Set amongst gypsy caravans at the end of the road, the rustic yet vibrant furniture lends different vibes to every single corner of this place has a different vibe. An excellent, well-priced cocktail menu and tasty tapas menu means you can’t go wrong at La Laguna.

Having moved from Semara Luxury Resort & Villas in Ungasan a while back, Finn’s Beach Club is now in the hip surfer ‘hood of Canggu. Laze away in the sun from the comfort of single or double day beds, take a dip in the stunning 30-metre infinity pool overlooking the beautiful Berawa Beach, or head out to the water since it’s right in front of the Berawa surf break. Their resident DJ starts spinning from 4pm daily.

This great social hangout is easy to make your regular sunset spot in Canggu, since picnic mats are laid out on the carpeted grass with slouchy beanbags. Go out on a limb at the Slackline or join the regular body balancing crew if you’re feeling flexible. Two thumbs up for the vibrant atmosphere and the delicious Coconut Mojito.

About five minutes away from Echo Beach on foot, this secret spot might be where many folks take their furkids out on walks – but it’s also best for packing your picnic baskets and laying out that mat to enjoy the breeze and the Bintang. However, there are several warungs on the beach if heading to Pererenan Beach for the sunset was a spontaneous decision.

Double Six Rooftop
15 metres above sea level and spanning over 1700 square metres, this is one of the world’s largest rooftop bars, andan excellent place to watch sunset with its unparalleled view of Double Six Beach. What’s unique about Double Six are the ‘floating pods’ that is surrounded by water; these booth seats have a minimum spending of Rp.1, 000, 000 (US$76), so it’s definitely for bigger groups (or if you feel like splurging). Australian restaurateur Robert Marchetti is behind the food and cocktails – try the United Colours of Satay.
