5 Things to Do in Singapore This Week: 14th September to 20th September 2020

Singapore is a hub bursting with creativity in all forms, be it in film, art or food. Whether you’re down to catch a thrilling Mexican film at The Projector or do some shopping for sustainable or quirky fashion, this week is brimming with loads of excitement that will whisk you away from the mundane of everyday life.

Mexican Film Festival 2020

In partnership with the Embassy of Mexico, The Projector brings drama and adventure to Singapore with the Mexican Film Festival 2020. Hold on to your seats as you immerse yourselves in a gripping tale of loss and acceptance in The Darkest Days of Us as a young woman’s return to her hometown, Tijuana, brings forth dark memories of her sister’s death and sends her into a spiral of paranoia. Limited to only three screenings, the festival has three other Mexican titles if one is not enough to satiate the film buff in you.

Mexican Film Festival 2020: The Darkest Days of Us will be screening on 19 Sept 2020, 27 Sept 2020, and 02 Oct 2020 at The Projector, 6001 Beach Road, #05-00, Golden Mile Tower, Singapore 199589. Tickets are available here

The Lounge by ZERRIN | 3rd Edition will be happening from now till 08 December 2020 from 10am-5pm at The Social Space – Marina One, 5 Straits View, Marina One Residences, #01-03 (Garden Tower), Singapore 018935.

Check Out Fun Local Designs

Meme fans, this is one “not-an-art-exhibit” you don’t want to miss. The collaboration between satirical content creator Singaplex and art gallery InkInk Collectibles sees a collection of exclusive merchandise in the form of T-shirts and posters up for grabs. Designs are inspired by local events that might seem all too familiar (our eyes are on a certain EAST COAST by EAST COAST shirt) and to celebrate the popup, store credit of S$100 will be rewarded to a lucky visitor. Check out their event page for deets on how to win it.

Singaplex’s Ongoing “Not An Art Exhibit” will be happening from now till 21 September 2020 from 12pm-6pm at 231 Bain Street, Bras Basah Complex, #04-49, Singapore 180231.

Go On A Literary Trek Through Singapore with Heman Chong

What do you do when inspiration strikes unexpectedly? Well, for Singaporean artist Heman Chong, his eight-hour wander around the city resulted in a no-holds-barred journey of writing while walking. Get drawn into a sense of breathlessness alongside the deliberate absence of punctuation and capitalisation in this wall of text to simulate the artist’s own physical exertion during his trek. Another intriguing installation to catch is his Safe Entry mural featuring the ever-prominent QR codes that have become a part of our daily lives.

Walking in the City ft. Artworks by Heman Chong will be accessible to all from now till 06 December 2020 outside the Singapore Art Museum along 71 Bras Basah Road and 8 Queen Street.
