PUBLISHED August 13th, 2020 05:30 am
Feasting is Singapore’s national pastime, and there’s no need to look further for proof. The Singapore Food Festival (SFF) is back from 21 – 30 August 2020, and for the first time, it’s going virtual. With this year’s theme “Rediscover the Foodie in You”, Singapore’s dining scene will come to life as more than 25 partners come on board to serve up gastronomic experiences to enjoy at home. Get ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience – we hope – with virtual food tours, live masterclasses, and more.
Explore Singapore’s Foodie Scene
Hosted by one of Singapore’s most endearing TV personalities, Chua Enlai, embark on Virtual Food Tours to rediscover the heritage behind some of the city’s precincts. Visit the Tanjong Pagar and Chinatown precincts and listen to tales behind its heritage food businesses, as well as to Katong and Joo Chiat to discover stories behind popular eats in the area. Limited slots for physically guided tours are also available, so keep your weekends free!
All Virtual Food Tours are free for viewing.
Masterchef Away At Home with Live Masterclasses
Cook alongside some of the top names in our F&B scene, in a series of 17 Live Masterclasses that will have you feeling like you could join MasterChef. Themes run into local produce – chef Julien Royer of three Michelin-starred Odette will be showcasing his famed salad Promenade A Singapour with local greens and a Nori Seabass Pasta from the folks at Scaled by Ah Hua Kelong – and local flavours. Chef Dave Pynt of Burnt Ends will be presenting a Milo Dinosaur Doughnut while chef Ming Tan from Slake demonstrates how to whip up his Damn Easy Hokkien Mee.
All masterclasses are free for viewing. Those who wish to cook along at home can purchase ingredient boxes from Shopee. Selected masterclasses will also offer limited slots for in-person demonstrations. Details can be found on the SFF website.
Feast on Specially Curated Food Bundles
While there might not be any physical stalls or pop-ups this year, it’s easy to indulge in scrumptious dishes all from the comfort of your own home. Mobile marketplace Shopee will be retailing Food Bundles that festival-goers can order for delivery. Seafood lovers can look out for Holy Crab, with their signature Devil’s Crab alongside Sautéed White Clams. Award-winning pastry chef Cheryl Koh from Tarte also has exclusive National Day Eclairs and a strikingly sour Calamansi Meringue Tart on offer.
Food Bundles are available from 14 August – 13 September 2020 on Shopee. While stocks last.
