A Tapestry of Sacred Music: John Tavener’s Flood of Beauty

A Tapestry of Sacred Music presents renowned British composer Sir John Tavener’s last major work. Spaced around the audience – with Indian instruments completing the ensemble — they set out to achieve Sir John’s intention of creating music that “whirls around the building”, in a uniquely immersive musical experience.
Based on 9th-century poet-philosopher Sankara’s poem Saundarya Lahari, this work praises the Hindu god Siva’s female consort Devi, who empowers creation, sustenance and guidance of the world. It is a work that is representative of Sir John’s perennial theme of the Divine Being.
