Just Opened #14: Singapore’s newest restaurants and bars

It’s a new year and we’re looking forward to lots of fabulous additions to the Singapore F&B scene…bring it on! In this JUST OPENED, the first of 2014, we start off with cat cuddles (seriously!), pizza NYC style, Italian and Asian bites and the largest selection of rib flavours in Sing.

Neko no Niwa

After visiting several cat cafes in Japan, Sam and Sue, the founders of Neko no Niwa (Japanese for ‘Cat Garden’) wanted to bring the same experience to Singapore. They are firm believers in cat therapy and the joy and relaxation that comes while interacting with wee feline furballs. Their cats, who live, eat, sleep and play in the shop, are all adopted from rescue homes (big thumbs up) and roam free in the cafe where you are the visitors and they rule the roost! For an hourly fee of $12, you get to play, snuggle, groom, or just be entertained by the cats and soak up the therapeutic environment, whilst sipping on soft drinks, fruit smoothies, tea and coffee and desserts from artisanal bakers. Important also to note (because we’ve already heard a few moans!) Sam and Sue specifically picked cats with sociable tendencies and who thrive off human interaction, so no cats were harmed in the making of this cafe!

Neko no Niwa is located at 54A Boat Quay, Singapore 049843. Opening hours are Monday – Friday: 11am – 10pm, Saturday and Public Holidays: 10am – 10pm. Sunday: 2pm – 9pm. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.

LONGTAIL Asian Brasserie & Bar

The latest addition to Customs House, Longtail serves South East Asian street food such as Asian inspired Crispy Pork Knuckle and Green Curry Chicken Bao in a cool and rather seductive setting – all dark wood and mood lighting! Run by the folks at Sabai Fine Thai, we get the feeling there’ll be no scrimping on quality and flavour but the modern furnishings and cool interior certainly give the feeling of a more casual and playful setting. With a wide range of Asian beers and cocktail choices, seems like a great choice for afterwork drinks and yummy bites.

Longtail Asian Brasserie & Bar is located at 70 Collyer Quay, #01-03 Customs House, Singapore 049323. Opening hours are: Monday – Saturday: 11.30am – 11pm. Closed on Sunday. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.

Tony’s Pizza

Bringing a slice of the Big Apple to Singapore, Tony’s Pizza located in River Valley will not help you lose those extra Christmas pounds with the plentiful toppings, cheesiness and fluffy crusts, but as taste sensations go….they promise you won’t be disappointed. The recipes and training are apparently from one of the oldest pizzerias in New York where the pizza slices come big (word is that to eat them, you need to fold in half NY style) and the pizzas are hand slung, so if you’ve been looking for an authentic New York style pizza, you’ve just found it! According to our American pals who have given it the thumbs up….Tony sure does make a good pizza!

Tony’s Pizza is located at 397A River Valley Rd, Singapore, 248292. Opening hours are Monday – Sunday: 11am – 11pm. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.

Ribbery & Wine Co.

The latest offering from the Ventry Group is a man-haven or rather a gentleman haven…where accompanied by a fine claret or perhaps a bold Burgundy, ribs are the main focus – 12 types to be exact – of Pork Ribs, Beef Ribs and Lamb Ribs all cooked to tender, off-the-bone goodness. Crowd-favourites include standard and expected favourites like BBQ Pork Ribs, Hickory Smoked Pork Ribs, Cajun Pork Ribs, with interesting flavours such as Marmite Pork Ribs (you’ll love it or hate it!), Shiraz Braised Beef Short Ribs (yum!), accompanied by sides, like mashed potatoes and cabbage ‘slaw. That’s all sounding great and then a quick peek at the remainder of the menu reveals Hot Wings, Mac & Cheese, Rosemary Roast Chicken…lordy lord! With over 200 wine labels sold at retail prices, delicious-sounding food and a casual feel, seems like an absolute win to us.

Ribbery & Wine Co. is located at 805 Bukit Timah Road #01-04, Sixth Avenue Centre, Singapore 279883. Opening hours are Tuesday – Sunday: midday to midnight. For more information, check out their Facebook page here.

&Sons

The write up for this place was simply:

Cocktail & Wine Bar
Salami Bar
Cheese Room
Italian Kitchen
Crafted by Artisans…which had us intrigued.

A Salami bar? What kind of wonder is this? A look at the menu revealed some serious sounding dishes that have us dribbling like Hokkaido Scallop Bake, Spaghetti Sea Urchin Carbonara and Paccheri, Iberico Pork & Truffle. With a superb selection of Italian cheeses (13 types), small plates, a great wine collection and cocktails, we welcome ethos slice of Venetian living!
