World Lit featuring Githa Hariharan

Githa Hariharan was born in Coimbatore, India, and grew up in Bombay and Manila. She is currently based in New Delhi. Githa Hariharan’s published work includes novels, short stories, essays, newspaper articles and columns. Her first novel, The Thousand Faces of Night (1992) won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for best first book in 1993. Her new book is a collection of her own essays, Almost Home: Cities and Other Places (2014). Hariharan’s fiction has been translated into a number of languages including French, Italian, Spanish, and German.

Writer. Editor. Activist. These are just some of the few labels associated with Githa Hariharan. Her body of work features highly acclaimed fiction and non-fiction work that engage with political issues in some way or the other. An astute political commentator, she also writes commentary on socio-political and feminist issues, as well as on Indian solidarity with Palestine.
