5 Things To Do In Singapore This Week: 26th April to 2nd May 2021

Get up and around town with fun activities or savour your leisure time with enriching experiences. If you’re feeling active, take a cycle around the island and tour Singapore’s urban farms, or check out Dale Chihuly’s glassworks exhibition at Gardens By the Bay. For some arts and culture, attend a virtual concert or watch a hard-hitting performance.

Hum Along to Checkpoint Theatre’s Classics

Stop by The Projector at Golden Mile Tower for a nostalgic night of Checkpoint Theatre‘s most popular music. In this 30 minute digital concert directed by Huzir Sulaiman and James Khoo, enjoy seven stirring songs featured in Checkpoint’s past productions, like FRAGO’s “Purple Light.” Watch till the end for a never-before-seen finale of Huzir Sulaiman’s sequel to Atomic Jaya followed by a Q&A.

Music of Checkpoint Theatre takes place from 29 April to 9 May online. Tickets priced at S$15, available here

You’ll recognise the American artist’s masterful glassblowing sculptures all around the city – including his large-scale installations at Resorts World Sentosa and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Now, the exhibition Chihuly: Glass in Bloom re-imagines our garden-city through shape, form, and light of glass.

Dale Chihuly: Glass in Bloom takes place from 1 May to 1 August at Gardens By the Bay, 18 Marina Gardens Dr, Singapore 018953. Purchase tickets here

See a Travelling Paper Installation

Paper is more versatile than one might think. Calligraphy artist Malik Mazlan and haiku poet Dave Tai push the boundaries of this overlooked workspace commodity. Exploring questions like, “what happens to a piece of paper after it has outlived its purpose?” and “what else does it want to say when there is no space left?” the Afterwords Travelling Exhibition contemplates the written word and wastepaper through a creative perspective.

Afterwords Travelling Exhibition takes place from 12 April to 31 May, 10am – 9pm at National Library, 100 Victoria St, Singapore 188064.
