5 Things To Do This Week In Singapore: 8th to 14th August 2016

Happy 51st Birthday Singapore! We may not (technically) be getting an extra long weekend this year, but there’s still plenty to do and see regardless. This week, head to Zouk for a star-studded celebration party; dance under the stars at Emily Hill, catch a movie at Fort Canning Park, and more.

Entertainment groups Zouk Singapore and Ismaya Live are coming together to create a music festival with a power-packed lineup comprising both local and intentional talents. The party kicks off with an electro set by Lincey, followed by the laidback sounds of Charlie Lim. Zushan, Ta-Ku (AU), and Sam Feldt (UK) take up the stage next, and that’s not even close to half of it. In the spirit of all things local, Phuture will transform into an intimate screening space that will showcase home-grown film talents and local movies.

Salsa Under The Stars

After a hugely successful run last month, Salsa Under The Stars is back at the enchanting kult kafé. As usual, the resident DJs will have you dancing the night away with Salsa, Son, Bachata Reggaeton, and a touch of Kizomba. Don’t know how to shake that body? Dancer extraordinaire Cheryl Wu will be conducing a 45-minute Salsa LA-style workshop from 7.15pm onwards at only $5. Cha Cha Cha~!

Films At The Fort 2016

Also making a return is the annual premier open-air cinema event, Films At The Fort. Set in the natural amphitheatre that is Fort Canning Park, grab a seat, some gourmet food and wine, and enjoy over 10 award-winning films, including the iconic Forrest Gump, Oscar Winner Russell Crowe’s action comedy The Nice Guys, and the 80s classic, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. These guy knows the value of a good day off, but do you?

Now in its fourth year, Marina Bay Sand’s culinary extravaganza returns this weekend for what could its best edition yet. The three-day food and wine gastronomy event will see new offerings such as the award-winning restaurant Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, an expanded farmer’s market, and an extensive collection of free and paid masterclasses by renowned chefs like Daniel Boulud, Nancy Silverton, and David Myers. Also making a comeback is the crowd favourite ‘Mystery Box Battle’ reigning champion Jonathan Kinsella (db Bistro & Oyster Bar) going head to head with CUT’s Joshua Brown.

Concerts On The Hill feat. Cambodian Space Project, Bitty Macbeth x Evan Low

Head to the historic grounds of Emily Hill for the inaugural Concerts On The Hill – a fresh quarterly live music series that seeks to promote the best of unknown local and regional music acts. Fresh off the release of her debut album Beauty for Ashes – which charted at #1 on the iTunes R&B charts -, local songstress bittymacbeth will collaborate with enigmatic producer Evan Low in an originals only set. Next, the widely-acclaimed Aussie-Cambodian band Cambodian Space Project will then take the stage with a unique blend of 60s rock ‘n’ roll and trippy psychedelic Khmer soul, closing off their 2016 European Summer Tour!
