If you’re always on the lookout for original sounds and fresh audio experiences, there’s no better place to catch new tunes than Baybeats. Back for its 13th edition this year, there’ll be a whopping 35 bands playing over the weekend, and whether or not you’re planning to go, we’ve selected 5 homegrown bands you should really prep your ears for.
Cesspit
Formed in 1995, Cesspit have sealed their reputation as veterans of Singapore’s music scene. Originally dishing out a brand of Ska, Oi!, and Punk Rock, this six-piece band has recently evolved to the gentler (and more head-bobbing) vibes of Funk, Reggae, and Folk. An electrifying act to watch, you can shimmy along with these guys all night long.
Cesspit is performing on Saturday, 27 June from 10.15pm to 11pm at the Powerhouse Stage (The Edge).
Knightingale
Knightingale keeps things simple with their raw sounds and catchy lyrics. This trio’s genre of 80’s Garage-Rock is a refreshing change from the over-elaborate melodies of modern musicians, while their back-to-basics music methodology incorporates the use of powerful, unadulterated sounds.
Knightingale is performing on Friday, 26 June from 6.30pm to 7pm at the Arena (Esplanade Outdoor Theatre).
Out For Blood
A mosh-pit magnet, Out For Blood is a heavyweight in Singapore’s burgeoning hardcore metal scene. Making use of deathly riffs and aggressive vocals, this madcap group is like Slayer, Pantera, and Hatebreed all rolled into one. Ladies and gentlemen, your head-banging and fist-pumping licences have been approved.
Out For Blood is performing on Saturday, 27 June from 9.15pm to 9.45pm at the Powerhouse Stage (The Edge)
Theodora
Don’t be fooled by her youthful looks. Theodora has the feel of a seasoned performer, with sultry vocals that exude a maturity beyond her years. Previously a solo singer, the bubbly teen is now backed by a four-piece band that gives the experience of listening to her a fuller, and more multi-dimensional aspect.
Theodora is performing on Sunday, 28 June from 6.30pm to 7pm at the Arena (Esplanade Outdoor Theatre).
Vessel
Drawing influences from a variety of genres such as Alternative, Experimental, and Post-Hardcore, music passes through Vessel to connect with you. An energetic band that is all about honesty, their rip-roaring rhythms and fervent showmanship has proven to be popular with fans.
Vessel is performing on Saturday, 27 June from 6.15pm to 6.45pm at the Powerhouse Stage (The Edge).
