Review: Fresh, Wholesome Food at Sprout Bali

Exterior of Sprout Bali

Adjacent to The Garden Early Learning Centre is Sprout, a modern cafe dishing out fresh, wholesome food, impeccable coffee, and chilled out vibes with a nutrition-conscious, holistic approach.

It’s one of those places where you can take a moment for yourself and enjoy their tantalising, contemporary ideas with rustic Arabesque influences.

Golden Tonic at Sprout Bali
Golden Tonic

Turning up thirsty, we started with the Golden Tonic (Rp. 29k), featuring turmeric, lime, and honey. Turmeric is known as one of the most powerful healing herbs and is a staple in Ayurvedic medicine. It has anti-inflammatory properties, is a natural liver detoxifier, a kidney cleanser, and speeds up metabolism.

What impressed us was the tea menu; the range of unique blends are customised to elevate respective ingredients’ natural health benefits and healing properties. We picked Purnama, a blend with black tea, blueberry and coconut flakes.

To help you start the day right, Sprout’s breakfast creations range from housemade superfood granola with passionfruit pulp, to a triple stack of gluten-free buckwheat pancakes with chai spiced honey, and even air-dried chorizo, black bean, and dukkah poached eggs dish.

The lunch menu is just as mouthwatering with a variety of healthy salads, Ribeye steak sandwich on housemade Turkish bread with rustic charred potatoes, and the pork and fennel sausage roll with apple chutney and cabbage slaw.

Trio of Salad at Sprout Bali
Trio of Salad

We were in a bit of a fickle mood, so we ordered a trio of salads (Roasted Vegetables, Stir Fried Broccoli and Tofu and Couscous). Served in a large bowl, it’s also great for sharing, and we’re not kidding when we say veggies never tasted so good. Pair it with Sunbird smoothie bowl (Rp. 45k) – blended with mango, apple with cashew nuts, pumpkin seeds and granola as the toppings – and you’re good for the day.

Produce grown in The Garden’s own organic veggie patch is used to educate young minds on the natural way of farming and growing food, and in turn, small scale harvests are used in Sprout’s kitchen. All daily organic waste is taken to the on-site educational composting area and converted into nutrient rich compost, while non-organic waste like plastic, glass, and metal are sorted, collected, and recycled. The folks at Sprout work closely with the team from Eco-Bali (the organization aims to maximize recycling, reduce quantity of waste, and promote composting in Bali).

Organic products at Sprout Bali

Above it all, all guests are able to purchase organic products at Sprout and the space is available for events booking too. Coffee geeks, take note that Sprout uses Empirical Coffee which is sourced from local Indonesian & South American growers and roasted in Bali.

Sprout Bali is located at Jalan Raya Semat 18a, Canggu, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia 80361. Open from Mondays to Sundays, 7am – 5pm.
