What To Expect At Singapore’s New Funan Mall: Where Technology Intersects With Design

Before Sim Lim Square became the unfailing destination for electronics and IT-related products, there was Funan DigitaLife Mall along North Bridge Road. Announcing plans for revitalisation in 2016, it’s finally reopening and is set to, well, set the bar high for living, working, and playing in one (nostalgic) space. You’ll probably find it worth the time travelling to the downtown core once it opens on Friday, 28 June 2019.

Cycle along its Indoor Trail

Singapore may pale in comparison to the Netherlands when it comes to cycling, but it’s surely on the way to becoming a car-lite city. If you’re someone who needs to incorporate a little cardio in your workout, then the mall was designed with you in mind. It’s a one-stop-shop with amenities such as shower cabins as well as a pump and repair station. Though the area is safe for shoppers to wander around, cyclists are encouraged to dismount and push their bikes during the peak hours.

Catch a Theatrical Performance

The dramatic arts scene in Singapore is booming, and there’s only so many other options besides Marina Bay Sands and Esplanade to satiate our drama needs. The Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre will be home to theatre company W!ld Rice, and is Singapore’s first-ever thrust stage inspired by the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre in London. Fancy. Now, not only can you witness some of the best performances, but also interact more intimately with the cast members.

Tickets for shows are available for purchase here.

Explore a Garden in a City

Head up to the rooftop garden and be amazed by the display of over 50 kinds of organic fruits and vegetables. Run by the Edible Garden City, you can find aromatic herbs and spices like lemongrass, mint, chilli padi, and turmeric. The exciting part? Dining at Funan Mall is all about the farm-to-table experiences, so once the fresh produce is harvested, they’ll be supplied to the mall’s restaurants! Talk about having a wholesome meal, huh?

E-sporting Tournaments

While MMA is all the rage these days, at Funan, we’re picking gaming headsets instead. Hosted by GamePro in its large dedicated arena, feel free to run around and be ruthless on the field – it’s a haven for both young and old.

Indulge in Retail Therapy

The Tree of Life, which spans six-storeys high, is an architectural marvel that’s sure to leave an impression when you step into the building. The structure hosts multiple retail pods, so you can shop both up-and-coming and established brands like Love Bonito and Carrie K., or attend a workshop or two. As the pop-up stores switch up every couple of months, there’s bound to be something novel each time you visit.

Experience a Co-Living Space

It’s all about co-living now, isn’t it? lyf, a residential concept by The Ascott, will see their first Singapore venue in Funan with 279 units, before branching out to Farrer Park and one-north in 2020. On top of getting a good night’s sleep, lodgers can look forward to forming new friendships with fellow inhabitants – think spacious communal lounges with games and movie nights.

Funan Mall will open in 28 June 2019, and is located at 109 North Bridge Rd, Singapore 179097.
