5 Things To Do in Singapore This Week: 14th December to 20th December 2020

This week is an exciting one. Singapore is holding its first large-scale, in-person event since the pandemic started, which means those of us who have been missing concerts now have our opportunity to go stand in a large, sweaty crowd again and listen to live music. Apart from that, we also have opportunities to explore an island off mainland Singapore, have a meal with an ex-offender and learn about their life, and enjoy art exhibitions and dance performances.

Attend Singapore’s First Large-Scale Event Since Circuit Breaker

Organised by AEG Presents and Collective Minds, Back to Live is an in-person, two-night event held at Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands on 18 and 19 December. Homegrown acts Benjamin Kheng, Sezairi and Charlie Lim will be headlining the concert, with special guest appearances by Narelle, THELIONCITYBOY, Linying, KEYANA and Aisyah Aziz. This event is part of the Ministry of Health’s pilot for pre-event testing, which means all ticket-holders will need a negative COVID test to enter. Testing is free, and there are only 500 tickets per concert, so act fast.

Back to Live is taking place 18 and 19 December, 9.30pm – 10.30pm. The concert will be at Sand Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, 4 Bayfront Ave, B1, Singapore 018973. Purchase tickets here for S$59 (one-day pass) or S$106 (two-day pass).

Break Bread With An Ex-Offender

An entirely unique experience that only lasts for two weekends, Genius Central and Architects of Life are presenting an experience where you can have a meal hosted by an ex-offender, learn about their personal story and ask them all the questions you want. Priced from just S$40 per person for a main and a drink, sets cater to up to groups of four. All proceeds for the event will go towards supporting programmes run by Architects of Life, a social enterprise that works with ex-offenders and youth-at-risk.

Upclose & Personal will take place at Genius Central, which is located at 7 Amoy Street, #01-01, Far East Square, Singapore 049949. The event will take place 12 December, 13 December, 19 December and 20 December 2020 from 7pm – 10pm. Learn more about Upclose & Personal and book tickets here.

Explore the Allegedly Haunted Pulau Hantu

We still can’t travel across borders, but Pulau Hantu is just south of the main island of Singapore and is still remote enough that it’ll kind of feel like a vacation. Join SGTrek for a trip to the 12.6-hectare landmass named for its alleged ghostly residents – according to legend, ancient Malay warriors used to duel to the death here and their spirits never left. Today, it’s all swaying palms, white sand, reefs, and even some mangroves. Its larger islet, Hantu Besar, has swimming lagoons and a public toilet with fresh water, and both have areas where you can set up a little picnic for yourself.
This trip to Pulau Hantu will take place on 19 December 2020, 10am – 4pm. Email [email protected] or WhatsApp +65 9270 0908 for enquiries. Tickets are S$75.

Feel At Home at a Local Artist’s Watercolour Exhibition

If you’re a fan of cityscapes and watercolour, make time to visit this exhibition. AC43 Gallery is presenting Tam Kwan Yuen’s latest solo exhibition Feels Like Home. The show features 20 watercolour works completed from 2018-2020, inspired by the artist’s travels in America, Europe and South Asia, and by Singapore’s skylines and metropolitanism. Quintessential for folks interested in the concept of home and the sensory experiences of city life.

Feels Like Home is taking place 12 December – 31 December 2020 at AC43 Gallery, located at 76 Bras Basah Road, #01-01 Carlton Hotel, Singapore 189558, p. +65 6336 4240.

Immerse Yourself in a VR Dance Performance

There’s even an accompanying scent designed with local perfumery Jetaime Perfumery, for further immersion.
PheNoumenon is taking place from 19 December – 31 December 2020 at T.H.E Dance Company Studio, located at 90 Goodman Rd, Blk M, #01-51, Singapore 439053. Sign up for a session here to enjoy an exclusive discount and gift.
